Mangalore, June 3: Alternate political forces that came into picture in the past to form a pro-people government challenging Congress, BJP, and JDS did experience failure. But in Karnataka Praja Pragati Ranga, the state has a formidable political alternative to the existing political system as it encompasses people's representation from a wider section of the society, said Kodihalli Chandrashekhar, President of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and State President of the Karnataka Praja Pragati Ranga.

He was speaking at the regional workers' conference of Karnataka Praja Pragati Ranga in Mangalore on Sunday.

Stating that the entire political system had turned corrupt, Mr. Chandrashekhar said that unless power is transferred to people, change will not come about in society. “More than half of MLAs in Karnataka Assembly are people who should have been behind bars. Political parties have spoiled the procedure of elections through cash and liquor distribution. They create drunkards out of innocent women and youth through their election campaigns. A strong public awakening is the need of the hour”, he said.

Owing to the domination of political parties like Congress, BJP, and JDS, elected representatives turn into the voice of their respective parties instead of being a voice of the section of the society that they are supposed to represent, Mr. Chandrashekhar lamented. The Karnataka Praja Pragati Ranga intends to put an end to this tradition and field candidates that would truly represent the people and the marginalized, he said.

Lolaksha, AHINDA leader and State Convenor, Karnataka Praja Pragati Ranga, in his address said that behind the façade of being the world's largest democracy, successive governments have been ill-treating the backward classes, minorities and marginalized sections of the society. “Pro-people activists' struggle has confined to mere submitting of appeals to elected representatives and Deputy Commissioners which will not solve the problem. The solution lies in transfer of power into the hands of pro-people activists”, he said.

Ilyas Thumbe, State President, Popular Front of India and member of executive board, Praja Pragati Ranga, Abdul Majid Kodlipete, State President of Social Democratic Party of India and Convenor, Praja Pragati Ranga, Venkata Swamy, President, Samata Sainik Dal and member of executive board, Praja Pragati Ranga, R Mohan Raj, State President, DSS (Bhimavada) and member of executive board, Praja Pragati Ranga, were among the dignitaries present non the occasion.

Bengaluru, May 2: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar has urged Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to help the farmers in sending their produce to a market here amid the coronavirus lockdown.

The Congress leader made the appeal to the Chief Minister after listening to the farmers' issues while visiting KR Puram market on Friday.

Farmers told Shivakumar that the police are stopping their vehicles going towards the market despite the order passed by the Centre permitting the movement of vehicles carrying essential commodities during the lockdown.

"I have received calls from more than 100 farmers in the past few days. Every day, farmers from Kolar, Chikballapur, Malur and many other places come to KR Puram market to sell their agricultural goods, but their vehicles are stopped by the police. The cops do not allow them to sell fruits and vegetables. I request the Chief Minister to look into the matter and help the farmers," Shivakumar told reporters.

"I got to know that more than 50 vehicles were sent back. This government is of no use if they cannot secure the interests of the farmers. This government is not providing required support to the farmers," he added.

The Congress leader was accompanied by MLC Narayana Swamy and former president of Hoskote Authority Narayana Gowda during the visit to KR Puram market.

The patient, a Chikkaballapur native sustained a heart attack near Sakleshpur on Saturday while he was on his way to Dharmasthala. He was provided preliminary treatment at a private hospital in Ujire, where doctors advised his relatives to shift him to a hospital in Mangaluru immediately.

The patient’s condition was critical and the odds were completely against him. Moreover owing to the ongoing double lane project work, the road too had been dugout. Despite all this, ambulance driver Hameed drove at a fast pace and managed to take the patient to the hospital within 40 minutes.

Mangaluru, May 13: Union Minister and former Karnataka chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda today assured that he will exert pressure on the authorities concerned to operate more repatriate flights to bring back Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia to Karnataka.

Speaking in a video conference organised by coastaldigest.com with Kannadiga delegates in Saudi Arabia, Mr Gowda said: “Today itself I will contact the external affairs ministry and Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to convince them the need to add operate flights to bring back stranded Kannaidgas from the Kingdom.

After paying heed to the advices, requests and concerns of Kannadiga delegates that participated in the video conference, Mr Gowda said: “Two things need to be done. First thing is number of flights from Saudi Arabia to Karnataka should be increased. Second thing is to ensure that most of these flights land in the Mangaluru Airport as most of the Kannadiga expats in Saudi Arabia are from the coastal region.

“There should be at least two to three flights from Saudi Arabia to Karnataka (Bengaluru Airport or Mangaluru Airport) every week. That is my intention,” he added.
