Three die, two severely injured in Mulky road accident

Mulky, June 4: Three people died on the spot and two severely injured following a ghastly road accident involving a car and a tipper near Karnadu Bypass under Mulky police station limits on Monday.

The accident took place at about 2:25 am in front of the Maruti showroom near Karnadu Bypass.

Three men and one lady were reportedly traveling to Manipal in their car, Maruti Suzuki Swift Desire, bearing registration number KL 58 B 8500. After having passed the Karnadu Bypass, when the car approached Maruti showroom, it banged into a tipper belonging to Navayug Constructions that was coming in from the opposite side.

Due to the impact, the lady was thrown out of the vehicle, falling on the road, dying on the spot. Two others who were seated inside the car, too died on the spot following injuries to their heads. Two more people who were seated in the rear seat of the car have sustained severe injuries and have been admitted to a private hospital in Mukka.

The deceased are said to be from Kerala and reportedly belonged to the same family. Kerala and Manipal Hospital cards were found in the car and hence it is being suspected that one of them was being taken to Manipal for treatment.

Four laning work of road is in progress at the spot where the accident took place. A temporary diversion has been given on the spot for the same reason. The driver may not have taken note of the diversion during the time of accident as it had rained too, it is being said.

The dead bodies have been sent to the mortuary of the government hospital by Mulky police. Identification of the deceased is being carried out.

Udupi: Boy held for throwing fake currency notes

Udupi, Apr 17: The city police on Friday caught a boy who created chaos near Aadi Udupi by throwing fake currency notes on road and fled afterwards.

This boy had thrown fake currency notes on the streets of Vadiraja Nagara near Krishna Mutt.

Few localities had collected the notes and reported this to police.

Private hospitals in Karnataka to provide 3,500 beds for covid patients

Bengaluru, Jul 9: Karnataka Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar on Wednesday said the private hospitals in the state have joined hands with the state government in the fight against COVID-19 and will provide 3,500 beds for patients.

"The meeting with managements of private hospitals has been successful and they have agreed to provide 3,500 beds for COVID-19 treatment," he said while addressing a press conference.

Pointing out that the step would help in providing more beds for COVID-19 patients, he added, "The state government is thankful to the private sector for joining hands with the government in this fight against the pandemic. Apart from beds, private hospitals will also run COVID-19 care centres in collaboration with hotels to treat asymptomatic and people with mild symptoms. Together with beds and COVID-19 care centres, private hospitals will add 6,000 to 7,000 beds in coming days," he said while addressing a press conference.

The minister while clarifying on JJM Medical College stipend issue said he had a number of meetings with the college as also the CM. "Held several meetings with the college management in this regard. I also discussed the same with Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa. He already asked the college management to release the stipend of Resident Doctors and PG Medicos immediately. Now it is up to the college management to act.

Urging the residents of the state to fight the pandemic with honesty, the minister said, "We should be honest about the virus and get tested ourselves without hiding it. Wearing masks, social distancing and following government guidelines are the weapon against COVID-19, which would help us to win this war."

Mangaluru | Flight charted by KMT brings home 180 stranded NIRs from Dammam

Mangaluru / Dammam, July 14: As many as 180 NRIs from Karnataka who were stranded in Saudi Arabia amid Covid 19 crisis today reached their home country by a flight charted by a Jubail based company KMT.

The Indigo flight carrying 174 adult passengers and 6 infants took off from King Fahad Airport, Dammam at 6:30 a.m. and landed at Mangaluru International Airport at 1:30 p.m.

Pregnant women, people with serious ailments and those who lost jobs are among the passengers. KMT has provided free ticket for some of the passengers who were in dire need of support.

KMT is a company which is head quartered in Jubail, Saudi Arabia was formed by natives of Addoor, Dakshin Kannada - Shoukath, Abdul Razaq, Siddique and Abdul Rahman.

The CEO of KMT, Mr. Abdul Razaq has thanked Dr. Arathi Krishna, former president of KNRI Forum for her support to KMT in chartering flight.

He has also has expressed his gratitude to D.K district administration, director of SACO company Mr. Althaf Ullal and KMT operation Manager Mr. Sadiq Ahmed and his team for their cooperation.
