Close shave for DK Deputy Commissioner in road mishap

Mangalore, June 4: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner N S Channappa Gowda had a narrow escape when his car met with a ghastly road accident in the city on Monday.

The incident took place around 8:15 pm, within a few minutes after Mr Gowda left his residence for an official meeting in Circuit House.

When his official Innova car was negotiating a turn at Balmatta Circle, a speeding Maruti 800 car coming from opposition direction rammed against it, sources said.

The impact of the accident was such that the Maruti 800 car, bearing registration number KA O6 M 3116 was completely damaged. Two among its passengers also sustained injures.

However Mr Gowda and his driver escaped without any injuries.

Kundapur, Apr 13: The city police, burdened with the enforcement of COVID-19 lockdown decided to undertake door delivery of essential items to ensure people remained indoor, official sources said here on Monday.

According to them, the police would be delivering items to the houses in Kumdapur, Byndoor, Gongolli, Shankara Narayana, Kundapur Rural, Kota and Amavasebail.

The police will start spreading awareness with this regard for three days starting from today (April 13).

Kalaburagi, Mar 16: In the wake of coronavirus scare, the public gatherings including local markets, village fairs, Urs festival in Kalaburagi district have been banned, said B Sharat, Deputy Commissioner, on Sunday.

"Gatherings including local markets, village fairs, Urs festival in the district have been banned as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus until further orders," Sharat said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that Europe has become the new 'epicenter' of the global coronavirus pandemic that has infected more than 15 lakh people with over 4,000 deaths globally.

Bengaluru, Aug 7: Dr Mohammed Yusuf, chairperson of the Karnataka State Board of Auqaf, passed away at a private hospital in the city today following a brief illness. He was 74.

Dr Yusuf was an industrialist and was known for his philanthropic activities. 

A veterinarian, Dr Yusuf had quit the government job and set up business in Bengaluru and Dubai decades ago and has earned considerable success.

He was re-elected as Board of Auqaf chief in January this year. He had held the post more than once in the past. 

He will be buried at the graveyard near Masjid-e-Muzammil which was built by himself at Govindapura, source said.
