Bangalore, June 6: The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has announced the results of the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (CET) 2012 on Wednesday.

A Common Entrance Test (CET) is a competitive exam conducted for the purpose of admission of students to the first year or first semester of full time courses in Medical, Dental and Engineering Courses in professional colleges within the state in India.

The Karnataka CET was conducted on May 20, 21 and 23 across Karnataka.

KEA is now gearing up to conduct online CET counselling for under-graduate professional courses for the first time this year.

Mangaluru: Class 10 student drowns in Adyapady dam

Mangaluru, May 20: In a gut-wrenching tragedy, a Class 10 student who was preparing for the final examinations drowned in Adyapady dam on the outskirts of the city yesterday.

The victim is Mallik, 17, a resident of Mulur village in Gurpur. The tragedy occurred when Mallik along with some others had come to the dam to catch fish.

According to the police, he accidentally slipped into the waters and drowned. His body was recovered later.

Jurisdictional Bajpe police have registered a case of unnatural death and investigations are underway.

Irked by Hegde remarks against Gandhi, BJP asks him to take 'remedial' measures

New Delhi, Feb 3: BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde's swipe at Mahatma Gandhi has irked the top party leadership and he may be forced to apologise, party sources said on Monday.

A senior BJP leader said the Karnataka leader's comments were "condemnable" and the party leadership is upset with him.

"The party has conveyed its displeasure to him and asked him to take remedial measure. Any insult to Mahatma Gandhi is unacceptable," he said.

Hegde, a former Union minister, reportedly claimed at an event in Bangaluru that the entire freedom movement was staged with the consent and support of the British, and the independence movement led by Gandhi was a "drama".

He also wondered why the Father of the Nation was called 'Mahatma' (a great soul).

The party leader said the Lok Sabha MP is a "disciplined" member of the party and will do what he has been asked to.

Hegde, known for hardline Hindutva leanings, has a history of making controversial remarks.

Man, suspected to have died of COVID taken to crematorium on pushcart by his widow, son

Belagavi, Jul 19: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman used a pushcart to take the body of her dead husband to the crematorium after she allegedly did not receive any help from relatives who suspected him to have died of Covid.

The woman and her son were seen pushing the body in the Athani thaluk of Belagavi.

The man had died two days ago at his residence and no family member apart from the close members attended the last rites due to the fear that he was COVID-19 positive.

It was later found that the deceased person was COVID-19 negative.

A total of 3,693 new COVID-19 positive cases and 115 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Friday, said the state health department.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state is presently at 55,115, including 33,205 active cases. While there are 20,757 recoveries, the death toll stands at 1,147.
