Serial accident causes traffic chaos

Mangalore, June 7: A driver suffered injuries and three vehicles damaged when a speeding private bus crashed into a Maruti Omni triggering a serial accident near Infosys Technologies Private Limited at Kottara Chowki, here on Thursday.

The accident that occurred around 11:30 am caused a traffic pile up for nearly an hour. Police said no one was injured in the accident.

Apart from bus and Omni a goods tempo was also involved in the accident. All three vehicles were moving in same direction.

Eye witnesses said that bus plying from Mangalore towards Kodikal rammed into the Omni in a bid to overtake it. The driver of the Omni lost control over his vehicle and hit a goods tempo and crossed the road divider.

According to the police, the Omni was damaged considerably whereas other vehicles had only minor damages.

The driver of the Omni was immediately rushed to a private hospital for treatment. Traffic came to a halt on the busy stretch, before police removed the vehicles.

Bengaluru, Mar 5: Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal's wife Priya Bansal has filed a dowry harassment case against the entrepreneur at Kormangala police station in Bengaluru, sources said.

Priya alleged that ahead of their wedding, her father had spent Rs 50 lakh for the arrangements and given Rs 11 lakh in cash to Sachin instead of a car. Further, she has also alleged that Sachin has been pressurising her to transfer all the properties that were in her name to him. However, after refusing to do so her in-laws started harassing her.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Sachin and three others at Kormangala police station in Bengaluru.

The police are investigating the matter.

Kalaburagi, May 4: Migrant workers stranded in different parts of Karnataka arrived in buses at Central Bus Stand in Kalaburagi on Monday morning and are being sent to their home towns.

The Kalaburagi City Corporation has made the requisite arrangements for labourers and their thermal screening is also being done.

"Food packets and water bottles are being provided to all. Buses carrying migrant workers started arriving from 5 am. We are expecting around 70 buses. This process will continue for the next 3 days," Rahul Pandve, Kalaburagi Commissioner City Corporation, told news agency.

"We have made arrangements for registration. And all arriving at the site are undergoing thermal screening," he said.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had on Sunday allowed labourers to travel to their hometowns in the state on KSRTC buses free of charge for three days starting on Sunday.

Mangaluru, Jul 1: Sudarshan Moodbidri, president of Dakshina Kannada district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party escaped unhurt after the car in which he was travelling met with an accident today on the outskirts of the city. 

The car’s front portion was completely damaged in the accident. It is not yet known who was driving the car. Sources said that Sudarshan did not suffer any injury. 

The mishap occurred when the driver lost control while trying to avoid hitting a pedestrian at Mijar near Moodbidri. The car collided with an oncoming vehicle before it veered off the road and entered the roadside sludge.

Sleuths from Moodbidri station police visited the spot as part of investigation.
