Bhatkal, June 9: At least 25 persons were injured in a major clash broke out between two groups belonging to two rival castes in Murudeshwar, near here on Friday evening.

The condition of one of the injured persons was stated to be critical.

According to police sources, there was an ongoing dispute over Basti road in Matadahitlu area of Murudeshwar between Namadhari and Moger communities. The land belongs to the revenue department. The road is to connect Kaikani Panchayat with Matadahitlu.

Both the groups were alleging that the other group was blocking the construction of the road. According to an earlier compromise formula, both the communities had agreed to leave land for the road in their respective areas.

The dispute assumed serious proportions on Friday and resulted in the clash in the area. The Namadharis alleged that Moger community had not left land in the area dominated by them for the road and had built a compound wall blocking the road.

Prior to this, on Thursday night, the compound wall was brought down by some miscreants. When the Mogers tried rebuilding it on Friday morning, some youth allegedly belonging to Namadhari community started an argument, which developed into a big clash with both the groups attacking each other with stones and other weapons.

As many as 25 persons were injured. Mahadev Naika suffered head injury in stone pelting. He was shifted to Kundapur hospital for the treatment. Other injured persons were shifted to the different hospitals in Bhatkal and Murudeshwar. Police have rushed additional forces to stop the violence spreading to other areas. The situation is now under control, police said.

Meanwhile, complaints and counter complaints have been lodged by Nagappa Moger and Ventakesh Naika accusing that they were attacked by the opposite parties.

Bengaluru, Jul 31: BJP leader CP Yogeshwar has slammed Yediyurappa supporters and said the JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy is supporting BJP.

Speaking to the reporters, Yogeshwar said, "Congress president DK Shivakumar and Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former CM HD Kumaraswamy, both are Yediyurappa supporters."

"His words seem to support the BJP. All that Kumaraswamy had said, during our government's rule, are happening including the officers they mentioned are being transferred. He has come forward to support BJP from the back door," Yogeshwar.

While reacting to allegations made by CP Yogeshwar, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar has said that earlier Yogeshwar requested for State Legislative Council (MLC) member ticket and now such people are blaming me without any evidence. This shows his dishonesty to his party and the kind of person he is."
