kidnappedUdupi, June 13: Manipal police have arrested a person on the charges of kidnapping a minor Dalit girl and raping her for over a month.

The accused has been identified as Abubakker Siddiq alias Siddiq, (23), a resident of Netaji Nagar in Parkala, near here. The victim is a 15-year-old girl belonging to Scheduled Caste.

According to the information given by the minor before the authorities of the State Home in Udupi, she was kidnapped from her house at Yembattu Badagabettu village on May 7.

Siddiq initially kept her in a nearby forest for three days. Later, he took her to Mangalore and from there to Bangalore.

He coaxed her by saying that he would marry her and forcibly maintained physical relationship with her, she told the authorities.

The minor, who had been subject to sexual atrocity, had been taken to the experts of the Department of Forensic Medicine at KMC Hospital here for examination.

After gaining all the information about the accused police succeeded in arresting him at the Manipal bus-stand on Tuesday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police of Udupi Prabhudev B. Mane said that the matter came to light after the girl fought with Siddiq and escaped from him in Bangalore and went to an auto-rickshaw driver who took her to Ramamurthy Nagar police station in Bangalore about a week ago.

The Ramamurthy Nagar police contacted the Manipal police and the State Home authorities in Udupi.

The girl was then brought to the State Home in Udupi. The girl's mother Lakshmi had registered a missing complaint with the police.

Medical examination of the accused Siddiq would be conducted and he would be produced before the local court on Wednesday, Mr Mane said.
