37 graduates receive 'Madani' title at Ullal Dargah convocation

Mangalore, June 14: The 42and anniversary and 33rd convocation ceremony of Sayyid Madani Arabic College was held on Thursday on the premises of Ullal Dargah, near here.

Ullal Qazi Abdurrahman Kunchi Koya Thangal alias Tajul Ulema handed over the degree certificates to 37 newly ordained mullahs.

After obtaining 'Madani' title the new graduates kissed the hands of Thangal and sought his blessings.

Addressing the new graduates AP Abubaker Musliar, the General Secretary of the All India Muslim Scholars Association, and founder and Vice Chancellor of Jamia Markazu Ssaquafathi Ssunniyya, said that the Muslim community needed more religious scholars like Madanis.

He called upon the new graduates to spread the message of 'Ahl-ul-Sunnath-wal-Jama'ath' across the world and fight against the misconceptions about religion.

Prior to the convocation ceremony a grand vehicle rally was held from Thaqwa Masjid in Pumpwell to Ullal Dargah premises.

New Courses

As part of the anniversary, two new courses under the aegis of Sayyid Madani Educational Trust, which manages the College, was inaugurated on Thursday morning.

The Hifzul Quran course and Sayyid Madani Da'wah College was formally inaugurated in the presence of Sunni leaders. In Hifzul Quran, free education and food will be provided along with residential facilities for students who have completed class V in madrasas. The students who have completed SSLC can apply for Da'wah College which will impart impart both religious and material education.

On the occasion, a 'Madani Sangama'-cum-Study Camp was also held under the leadership of Basheer Faizi Vennikkod, principal, MDS Vennikkod.

Ibrahim Musliar, Qazi of Udupi, Abdullah Kunchi, Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya University, Fazal Koyamma alias Koora Thangal were present among others.

Mangaluru, Aug 7: A youth died on the spot in a ghastly road mishap on Netravati Bridge near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city today evening.

Police sources said that the face of the youth, who was riding a motorbike, has been damaged beyond recognition. He died on the spot. 

More details about the mishap are yet to be known. A case has been registered at Mangaluru Traffic police station.

Mangaluru, Aug 2: Former Minister and Mangaluru City MLA U T Khader has gone into self-quarantine after former MLC Ivan D’Souza tested positive for coronavirus. 

Mr D’Souza had met Mr Khader and many other Congress leaders a day before receiving his throat swab test results. 

Mr Khader announced on twitter: “Have gone into self-quarantine with immediate effect after receiving the news about #Covid_19 positive test of Former MLC Ivan D’Souza & his wife Dr Kavitha. Being COVID Incharge DK District taskforce committee, I am one among Ivan's primary contact.”

“I am going to discharge my duties from home for the next few days. You can reach out over phone at any point of time. I appeal to all my colleagues and friends who may have come in contact with us in the last few days to get tested for #Covid_19” he tweeted.

Kasaragod, Feb 18: Police have seized counterfeit notes of Rs 45 lakh from a resident here on Tuesday.

The accused Muhammed, a native of Perla, has been taken into custody for carrying the prohibited currency and the police is investigating the crime.
