Mangalore, June 14: The punarpratishtapana rituals of the original deity of Varanasi Kashi math samsthan, Vyasa Raghupathi, were celebrated with devotion and pomp at Sri Venkataramana Temple in Car Street on Wednesday.
The junior pontiff of the math Samyameendra Tirtha Swamiji presided over the pre-installation rituals in the presence of a large number of devotees.
Hundreds of devotees had arrived from various parts of the country to witness the punarpratishtatapana, which was being held for the first time in the history of Kashi Math.
The religious rituals commenced early in the morning at 5.30 am and included rituals like Panchamritha Abhisheka, Pavamana Kalashabhisheka, Poornahuti Yagna etc. The idols of the original deity was then brought to the newly decorated peetha. After alankar and offering of naivedya, the senior pontiff Sudhindra Tirtha Swamiji offered Prasanna pooje to the deity.
This was followed by offering of pattakanike by the devotees to the presiding deity. The devotees also took prasadam from the pontiff, who in the afternoon performed Sarvalankara pooja.
The unprecedented punarpratishtana celebrations saw thousands of devotees flooding to Car Street early in the morning. As many as 25 CCTVs had been set up to relay the holy rituals being performed inside the temple to the devotees who had filled the courtyard, Rajangana and Horangana.
