Mangalore police nab four young thieves; recover stolen property

Mangalore, June 15: Four persons have been arrested on Thursday by Mangalore City Police in connection with a theft reported at the house of Jashwaruddin, resident of Balmatta Mission Compound on the night on May 12

The arrested have been identified as Arun Shanmugam Shetty (22) of Thane, Venkatesh (28), and Murugesh (20) of Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu and Kiran (20) of Davangere. Police have recovered most of the items stolen by the accused.

The operation was carried out jointly by the sleuths of City Crime Branch and Mangalore East Police Station.

Acting on a tip off on the presence of two youths roaming around in a suspicious manner on a motorcycle with a lap top near Kadri Park, CCB Police Inspector HN Venkatesh Prasanna and his team swooped down on the duo and inquired about their presence in the area.

When they were unable to give any coherent answers about the laptop found in their possession, they were taken in for questioning. They duo reportedly confessed to having stolen it from the house.

Based on information provided by the duo, police then arrested their accomplices. Police recovered a laptop, digital camera, handycam, nine gold rings, three gold bangles, a gold necklace, mobile phone, gold chain, gold earrings, three watches and the motorcycle. Police are ascertaining if the motorcycle seized is stolen or not.

Police have also recovered various identity documents from the accused, including their EPIC and driving license.

Eid al-Fitr on Sunday, May 24 in coastal Karnataka

Mangaluru/Udupi, May 22: Two prominent Qadhis of coastal Karnataka today declared that Eid al-Fitr will be observed in the region on Sunday, May 24.

Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar, the Qadhi of Mangaluru and Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal, Qadhi of Udupi Samyukta Jamaat in their separate statements made this announcement.

The decision was taken as there was no news of new moon sighting in the coastal region today.

Ullal Qadhi Qurrathussadath Seyyid Fazal Koyamma Thangal Al Bukhari also announced that 24th May is first of Shawwal and Eid al Fithr will be celebrated on that day.

Moon sighting for the start of the month of Ramazan, for end of fastings- Eidul Fitr, for the month of Hajj and Muharram:

The moon sighting is so easy. We the people of India and have Indian Standard Time all.over India.

When we can accept the moon sighting in Delhi and announcement from Delhi as it was during times of Radio and Doordarshan news, why can we not accept the sighting of moon in coastal region of Karnataka and in Kerala?

Let us bring about change for good.

Why is rest of Karnataka or India not joining for Eid with coastal region and kerala? At the time of Radio and Dorrdarshan only days, all of India used to wait for 8.00 pm news for updates of moon sighting. So why not accept the moon signing witnesses in Kerala or coastal region?

I request all Indians to accept the witnessing of Moon sighting in any area of India and start and end Fasting.

Why BJP hesitating to restore Lokayukta in Karnataka, asks Santhosh Hegde

Tumakuru, Feb 5: Former Lokayukta Justice N Santhosh Hegde has questioned the integrity of the B S Yediyurappa led BJP government as it has not taken an action to abolish the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) to re-establish the Lokayukta in Karnataka.

Speaking after felicitating the retired scientist of NASA Gopal Iyengar at the Karnataka Public School at Kadaba in Gubbi taluk he reminded that the BJP had promised to establish the Lokayukta.

"No party will like to strengthen the Lokayukta and now BSY is also tightlipped and even put an end by appreciating that ACB has been doing a good job", he regretted.

In fact, the Lokayakuta had the power to prosecute even the top brass of officials and now the ACB cannot without the government's permission, he clarified.

He denied any remarks on the CAA and NRC but observed that the youths of the country have been misguided by the politicians as they lost their focus on education by involving in protest rallies.

"I suggest they to straight away take a political plunge instead of getting misused at the hands of the politicians with selfish motives", he said.

Years after first wife's suicide, husband kills second wife in front of her father

Mysuru, Mar 6: A woman was murdered by her husband in front of her father in the wee hours of Friday at her home in Hosakamanakoppal, Yelwal hobli here, police said on Friday.

The police said the deceased is Mamatha, a native of Periyapatna who was married to Nagesh of Hosakamanakoppal about seven years ago. The couple has a six-year-old son. Mamatha was Nagesh’s second wife as his first wife had allegedly committed suicide.

It is said that Nagesh was addicted to liquor and gambling and used to fight with Mamatha over petty reasons.

Yesterday night too, there was a fight between the couple and Mamatha’s father pacified both of them and all of them went to sleep later.
