Land issue: Woman, Father assaulted in Ullal

Mangalore, June 15: A case of a woman being assaulted in connection with a land issue came to light in Ullal on Friday.


Trouble began when a certain Qasim accused Muhammad Haji and his four brothers of encroaching on land belonging to him near Ullal Dargah which resulted in some heated verbal exchanges between the two parties. The matter got worse and Mr. Qasim along with her daughter Ramlath are said to have been assualted by the four brothers.


The father daughter duo is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Thokkottu.


Ms. Ramlath's brother Nizam has alleged that Hamza, Yahya, Farooq and Abraam, all brothers of Muhammad Haji, dragged her to assault her. When Mr. Qasim tried to intervene, his hand was attacked with a sword. Ramlath was also attacked with a knife, he has alleged.


Mr. Nizam has said that Muhammad Haji wanted to incorporate their land with his lodge property that lies right adjacent and was pressurising them to sell the same to him. Since Mr. Qasim did not agree to give away his land, Haji has been giving constant troubles and now has resorted to sword attacks, Mr. Nizam has alleged.


Interestingly, no case has been registered yet. Mr. Nizam said he had approached the Ullal Dargah Administrative Committee with the complaint of the assault on Mr. Qasim and Ms. Ramlath but said he was sent back by the Dargah authorities stating that it was his personal matter.

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 11: In a unique form of protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), a bridegroom in Kerala, Haja Hussain, came for his wedding ceremony riding on a camel holding an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) poster in his hands, on the outskirts of the capital city on Monday.

Accompanied by a large crowd mostly comprising his friends and relatives, Hussain carried a placard which read "Reject CAA, Boycott NRC and NPR" as he arrived at the wedding hall in Vazhimukku, about 20 km from Thiruvananthapuram, on a camel back.

Haja Hussain said that he chose to do this to express his protest against the CAA.

"Along with the ' mahr' (the custom where the groom hands over gold or money to the bride), I also gave a copy of the Constitution. CAA should be rejected," said Haja Hussain, who is a local businessman.

Mangaluru, May 30: Coastal district of Dakshina Kannada today recorded third covid-19 death as a 67-year-old woman from Bantwal taluk succumbed to the coronavirus at the district Wenlock Hospital, the designated Covid hospital.

The victim is said to be a neighbor of two women (daughter-in-law and mother-in-law) who died of the coronavirus a few days ago. 

On April 18 due to difficulties in breathing, she was rushed to Wenlock Hospital, where she was tested positive for coronavirus. Initially she responded to treatment. However, her condition started worsening earlier this week and breathed her last today evening.

Her daughter also has been tested positive for the deadly virus and she is currently undergoing treatment.

Bengaluru, Apr 22: In order to infuse confidence among people to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Karnataka government on Wednesday launched a helpline 'Apthamitra' with an exclusive toll free number and a mobile app, aimed at providing required medical advice and guidance for those in need.

The help line and app was launched by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa in the presence of senior Ministers and officials of the department.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Yediyurappa said that the help line was need at this crucial juncture. “If anyone has symptoms of Coronavirus, they can call the helpline from their home, get medical advice or assistance and get their doubts cleared. 

People who call to know the symptoms, an expert team of doctors will advice on what to do next.”
