Konkani literary chariot flagged off

Mangalore, June 21: In order to promote Konkani language and culture, a Konkani students and youth conference will be organised brining young students from all Konkani speaking communities under one platform in coming December, revealed Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy President Kasargod Chinna.

He was delivering the presidential address at the inaugural ceremony of the 'Konkani Sahitya Ratha' (Konkani literary chariot) at Lourdes Central School, Bejai, here, on Thursday.

Mr Chinna said that the Academy also has planned to hold separate state level conventions to promote different streams of Konkani culture like Konkani art and Konkani music etc.

He said that the two-day Konkani Sahitya Ratha, which would visit 120 schools in the city and distribute Konkani books to the school libraries, was part of the Academy's programmes to pass Konkani language to next generation.

Experts Education Institution President Narendra Nayak flagged off the chariot.

Former president of the Academy Eric Ozario said that Konkani is a unique language which unites people from different faith and cultures under one platform. He pointed out that there are Konkani speaking families in all communities including Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Dalits.

DDPI Moses Jayashekhar, who was the chief guest on the occasion, laid emphasis on the importance of giving priority to one's mother tongue.

He said that as many as 61 students have successfully completed SSLC in recently concluded academic year with Konkani as third language.

Mangaluru, Mar 29: Infosys Foundation Chairperson Sudha Murty has sent the second consignment of N95 Masks, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Sanitisers worth about Rs 73 lakhs, City police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha said on Sunday.

"These will be primarily used by Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics of Wenlock Hospital here and masks by the frontline staff of ASHA and police at risk of exposure to the virus,” Dr Harsha tweeted on Sunday.

The district has received the first consignment with critical medical equipment worth Rs 28 lakh from the Infosys foundation on Saturday, March 28.

Bengaluru, Apr 21: An FIR has been filed against a Kannada TV anchor allegedly for organising a guest packed wedding at a resort near Bengaluru last week amid lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Police got the tip-off about the event held on April 18 by locals residing near the resort. Around 20 people were present there to attend the wedding.

The FIR has been filed under National Disaster Management Act (NDMA) and Section 188 and 269 of the Indian Penal Code.

Bengaluru, Aug 4: The heath condition of Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa who had tested positive for Covid-19 continues to be stable and he is currently asymptomatic, hospital source said.

Congress leader and former chief minister Siddaramaiah who too has tested positive for Covid-19, is suffering from high fever and is currently receiving treatment. He has been admitted at the Manipal hospital in Bengaluru.

"I request all those who had come in contact with me to check out for symptoms and to quarantine themselves," Siddaramaiah had said in a tweet.

Yediyurappa, is in the same hospital for treatment along with his daughter B Y Padmavati, who too tested positive for the virus on Monday.

Yediyurappa on Sunday night (2 August) had tweeted that, "I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self quarantine.”
