Dharmasthala, June 22: A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between the Dharmasthala Trust and the Union Rural Development Ministry, to look after Rural Self-employment Training Institutes (RSETI) managed by the Union government.

During the tri-decennial celebrations programme of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) at Dharmasthala on Friday, Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh requested Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade to take over the 527 RSETIs opened by the Ministry, across the nation.

Dharma_10Expressing dissatisfaction over the functioning of the institutes set up a year ago, he asked the Dharmasthala Trust to manage them.

“The Finance Ministry will provide the necessary finance for these institutes which have been set up at a cost of Rs one crore each. While the Rural Development Ministry will provide moral support, the banks will provide the manpower and the Dharmasthala Trust should provide management assistance,” he requested.

Agreeing in principle to the proposal, Dr Heggade said that as per the MoU, the Trust will have to achieve a success rate of 40 per cent in the first year, 50 per cent in second year and 70 per cent in the third year.

He said the Trust will manage these institutes under the monitoring cell set up by the Ministry which will also be looked after by the Dharmasthala Trust. Earlier, speaking with mediapersons, Jairam Ramesh insisted upon declaring Kuduremukh National Park atTiger Reserve area.

It is of great necessity to declare the Park as a Tiger Reserve, specially in the backdrop of growing naxal menace. The project demands the eviction of the families from the forest. As many as 14,000 families reside in the forest.

Among them, 600 applications from the families willing to come out of the forest had been pending for the last ten years. The rehabilitated families will be provided with minimum a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each. However, there will not be any forceful eviction. The process will be carried out in a most democratic way, he said

Bengaluru, Apr 20: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday came down heavily on Congress legislator BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan over the Padarayanapura vandalism that saw a mob run amok against efforts to quarantine suspected COVID-19 persons late on Sunday evening.

Khan, who represents the Chamarajpet constituency where Padarayanapura is located, said that authorities should have gone to the area during day time.

“Who is he to say that? What does he have to do with this? Why should we ask him? Should we get his permission to carry out government work? Instead of saying that action should be taken, he is speaking like this. Should we then think that he incited the mob? This is the height of being irresponsible,” Yediyurappa said.

Following the violence, the police have arrested 54 persons and “five more will be arrested,” Yediyurappa said.

Khan clarified that he did not defend those who indulged in vandalism. “I condemn the incident and action should be taken. I’m not saying officials shouldn’t have gone. My point is that they should’ve gone during the day and by creating awareness beforehand that people need to be quarantined,” he said, adding that the BBMP had identified 57 people to be quarantined in Padarayanapura.

“People in this area are poor, uneducated and are mostly coolie workers and daily wagers. But whatever happened was wrong,” Khan said. He also pointed out that he was the one who arranged for 80 people to be quarantined in Tipu Nagar.

Yediyurappa said the Padarayanapura incident was unprecedented. “In the entire state, never had such incidents taken place. Everybody agrees this is unacceptable,” the CM said. “Whoever breaks the law - Hindu, Muslim, Christian or anyone - should face action,” he said.

Bengaluru, July 31: Denying irregularities in covid-19 equipment purchase by the Karnataka government, the state unit of the BJP has issued legal notices to Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar demanding that they apologize or face a defamation suit.

The notices seek a public apology for the allegations levelled against the government on irregularities in the procurement of Covid-19 equipment and supplies.

Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, the Karnataka Congress president, have been doggedly pursuing allegations of corruption against the BJP government and have demanded a judicial inquiry.

BJP general secretary N Ravi Kumar said that while the Congress leaders claimed that Rs 4,157 crore was spent during Covid-19, they also allege that the government has not responded to any of the 20 letters written by them. "If the government has not provided any answer to the Opposition, where did they get the figures from," he said.

None of the allegations of corruption is specific and the statements made are factually incorrect. "These statements, without any basis, have been issued calculatedly to lower the image and damage the reputation of the government, the Bharatiya Janata Party, representatives of the party and the ministers in the government," the notice issued on behalf of Ravi Kumar read.

Karwar, Aug 6: In a shocking incident, a 40-day-old girl child was murdered by her own parents in Sirsi town in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district.

The accused are Priyanka (21) and her husband Chandrashekhar Bhat (42), residents of Ramanakoppa in Sahasrahalli in Yellapur.

According to police, the couple did not want a girl child and hence threw it into a well. The couple was arrested by the police the very next day.

The incident came to light after the child’s maternal uncle, Abhishek Jagadeesh Singh Choudhari, a resident of Rajeev Nagar in Sirsi, lodge a complaint with Yellapur police station.

He had claimed that his sister Priyanka’s baby had been kidnapped and subsequently killed.

Priyanka had claimed that she woke up around 2.30am on August 2 to find that her baby, Tanushri, was not in her cradle. Her husband’s family subsequently started searching for the baby, which they found dead inside a well.

Choudhari suspected that Tanushri had been kidnapped, and had been killed by her abductors to erase any evidence of their crime.

Uttara Kannada superintendent of police Shivaprakash Devaraju constituted a team to crack the crime, and the cops, who subjected the parents to an interrogation, found that they were the culprits.
