Mangalore, June 24: Strongly backing Karnataka BJP chief K S Eshwarappa's saffronisation claim, Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar has said that the saffronisation of education was inevitable to save our culture.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of newly built Shree Bharathi Pre-University College at Nanthoor, in the city on Saturday, Mr Kateel said that saffronisation of education must be intensified in Dakshina Kannada.

“There are two main issues in education today. One is whether to follow Kannada or English in schools, and the other is saffronisation of education. Let anyone discuss it, saffronisation of education must increase, to save our culture”, he said.

While there was no dearth of educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada, there was a dearth of Indianised educational institutions, he said.

Mr. Kateel said he would give Rs.5 lakh to government schools from his Local Area Fund and promised to give more funds in the coming years.

Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, said Karnataka was good in education because of government and private schools. For example, Siddaganga, had for many years, been assisting lakhs of students who were now leading independent lives, he said.

Mr. Kageri said that many students received degrees but what mattered was whether they were independent and confident.

“The result of Macaulay's system of education is limited to getting a certificate. But we need clarity on a perspective on life, our social and national objectives. As Indians, we have to get a perspective on life,” he said.

He told students to work hard and teachers to stay updated so that they could compete effectively at the national-level. “Don't depend on old notes,” he said.

Mangaluru, Jul 2: Mangaluru BJP Corporator Manohar Shetty, who entered a manhole to clean a drain, said that he did it to avoid waterlogging ahead of monsoon as people were facing several problems for the past few years.
