Medical services paralysed as doctors go on strike

Mangalore, June 25: With doctors in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada joining the daylong nationwide strike called by the Indian Medical Association, medical services across the coastal Karnataka were remained paralysed on Monday.

The strike was called in protest against the proposed National Commission for Human Resources in Health (NCHRH) Bill, 2011.

Most of the private hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and diagnostic centres remained closed since morning, except for the emergency services.

Doctors of all the regional government and private medical college hospitals have supported the IMA's strike call.

As part of the strike, dozens of members of the Mangalore branch of IMA staged a symbolic agitation in front of IMA House in City at 9:45 am.

Dr K Jayaprakash Shetty, president, IMA, Mangalore speaking on the occasion said that said that all the doctors in the country were against the introduction of NCHRH Bill, as it would create an organisation that supersedes the now-defunct Medical Council of India and all other paramedical councils.

“Today all government doctors have boycotted their work, while doctors who are running their private clinics also joined the agitation just to say no to the Bill”, he said, adding that all the doctors have expressed their disapproval for the dissolution of MCI.

“With the new scheme, we will have to go to Delhi to get permissions to practice. It will allow anyone to practice anywhere, leading to chaos,” he said.

Dr K Mohandas Bhandary, Co-Chairman, IMA Standing Committee, said that if the government really wants quality service, it should grant autonomous power to MIC.

Dr Annayya Kulal, Dr Siddarth M Shetty, Dr Satheesh K Bhandary were among the protesters. The protesters later submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Karnataka government on Friday issued revised guidelines for international returnees.

According to the guidelines, all the travelers shall submit self-declaration form on the Yatri Karnataka online portal at least 72 hours before the scheduled date of travel.

"All travelers shall submit Self-declaration forrn on the Yatri Karnataka online portal (http://www,covidwar.karnataka.gov.in or http://parihara.kaarnateka.gov.in/service38/) least 72 hours before the scheduled date of travel," it read.

It said that Before Boarding Do's and Don, about COV1D-19 quarantine, testing, etc. shall be provided along with ticket to the travellers by the travel agencies concerned.

All passengers shall download Arogya Setu app, Quarantine watch app end Apthamitra App on their mobile devices, (https://covid-19.karnataka.gov.in/new-page/softwares/en).

At the time of boarding the flight/ ship, only asymptomatic travellers shall be allowed in board after thermal screening.

"Deboarding should be done by ensuring physical distancing of two meters. 

Self-declaration form shall be obtained from each passenger in duplicate," the guidelines read.

Karnataka has 75,076 active cases of the virus with 80,281 recovered and 2,897 deaths so far.

Bengaluru, May 16: The Karnataka government is expected to take a call on Monday on holding the Secondary Level School Certificate (SSLC) or class 10 examination, which were postponed due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar said there was a possibility that the state government may come out with a timetable on Monday. "We are holding a meeting regarding the SSLC examination," he told reporters here.

He also said there would be discussions on how to conduct the exams and precautionary measures to be taken in view of COVID-19.

"We have to make arrangements for masks, sanitisers and thermal scanners. We will set up a thermal scanner for a health check-up. We have to make separate seating arrangements for those having health issues. All these issues will be discussed on Monday," Kumar said.

The SSLC exams were supposed to commence from May 27 but due to the lockdown, it was postponed for an indefinite period.

Bengaluru, Jan 26: BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel has been served with a court notice asking him to personally appear before the special court for people’s representatives on February 24, in connection with a defamation suit filed by Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad.

Rizwan had lodged the defamation suit against Kateel and state BJP social media chief after the party, in a tweet during the 2019 Lok Sabha election, alleged Rizwan’s involvement in the manufacture of fake voter identity cards.

Apart from Kateel, head of the party’s social media unit has also been asked to appear in person at the above court on February 24.
