KMDC mulls statewide campaign to create awareness on schemes

Mangalore, June 26: The Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation will be disbursing loan and subsidies under eight different schemes. However, not many applications have been received from Sullia taluk and Christians, pointed out Corporation President A N Aboobaker.

Addressing a press meet, Aboobaker said that June 30 is the last date to receive applications. He also said that he shall take up a tour to urge the minorities to apply for loans under various schemes in various districts.

The tour will begin from DK district, he said.

“The poor response from Sullia could be because of people being unable to submit applications to the Corporation office in Mangalore. Efforts will be made to address this problem,” he said.

The government has earmarked Rs 3.68 crore under the Christian Development Scheme.

Under Arivu Scheme, 409 applicants can receive Rs 81.80 lakhs. However, many have not applied.

Under the Shramashakthi scheme, the target is to disburse loan of Rs 81.80 lakh to 409 individuals.

However, only 175 applications have been received so far, he regretted.

Under the Micro Loan Subsidy scheme 817 beneficiaries have been allotted with Rs 81.70 lakhs but only 103 applications have been received,he said.

In 2012-13, Rs 100 crore has been earmarked for the minorities in the state and Rs 22.50 crore has been allotted for the Christians.

For the DK district, Rs 7.03 crore has been allotted for minorities and Rs 3.68 crore for the Christian development scheme. A total of Rs 10.71 crores has been allotted for minorities in the district.

In the current year, the target is to disburse Rs 43.2 lakh to 288 beneficiaries in the Swawalambana 'Margin' Money Loan Scheme.

In Arivu Loan Scheme Rs 2.37 crore will be disbursed among 1,188 beneficiaries.

Under Sharamashakthi Scheme Rs 1.29 crore will be distributed to 648 beneficiaries, Rs 1.72 crore has been earmarked to be distributed among 1,728 beneficiaries under Micro Loan Subsidy scheme and Rs 1.20 crore has been allotted to 120 beneficiaries under the Ganga Kalyana Scheme. Hence, a total of Rs 7.03 crore has been earmarked among 3,972 beneficiaries, he added.

Aboobaker revealed that as many as 9,946 beneficiaries were given a sum of Rs 176.2 crore in the last three years.

However, this year more amount has been earmarked for minorities. In the year 2008-09, about Rs 3.48 crore, in 2009-10 Rs 3.73 crore, in 2010-11 4.63 crore and in the year 2011-12, Rs 5.76 crore had been earmarked, he revealed.

Under National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation's direct loan schemes, a sum of Rs 10 crore has been allotted to the state, of which Rs one crore has been allotted to the district, he said.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr Ashwath Narayan today said that if former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, being a law-abiding citizen, does not follow guidelines then action will be taken against him.

The Deputy CM made this comment when he was asked about Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil's marriage, which has been fixed on April 17 at a farmhouse near Bidadi in Ramnagar.

Narayan said: "Any violation of the guidelines will not be tolerated. We will ask the concerned authority to film the entire event and document it."

He said that so far Kumaraswamy has made public statements that guidelines will be followed.

"HD Kumaraswamy is a people's representative. He has been in public life for a long time. He should abide by the guidelines," Narayan said.

"Since he has been in a responsible position for a long time and he was the Chief Minister, guidelines must be followed in his son's marriage as per the rules amid COVID-19 scare.

After the marriage, there must not be any excuses. He cannot say that people came without an invitation," the Deputy Chief Minister added.

Kumaraswamy clarified that only his family members will attend the marriage and that there will be around 60 to 70 people.

"All guidelines will be followed as per the central government directives," he said.

Bengaluru, Jan 24: Middle East based prestigious LuLu Group has come forward to invest $300 million in Karnataka in the retail, logistics and hospitality sectors.

As part of this, the first LuLu mall will commence operations in Bengaluru’s Rajajinagar area by August.

LuLu’s first mall in India, in Cochin, is seen as a huge success. It’s not clear how that mall is doing financially, but it became so popular that it had an adverse effect on almost every other mall in the city.

Lulu’s investment plan for Karnataka was communicated during a discussion between chief minister BS Yediyurappa and Yusuff Ali MA, chairman and managing director of Lulu Group, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The company will also set up two five-star hotels in Bengaluru through Twenty14 Holdings, its hospitality arm, and a modern logistics centre in the Uttara Kannada region.

Lulu Group’s retail initiative Tablez brought Toys `R’ Us, one of the world’s largest toy store chains, to Bengaluru in 2017. Started in the Phoenix Mall in Whitefield, it competes with Reliance-owned Hamleys.

Tablez has also brought in other international brands such as American ice cream parlour chain Cold Stone Creamery, South Africa based flame-grilled chicken concept Galito’s, and Tablez’ own brand Bloomsbury’s, a boutique cafe and bakery. It has also launched Spanish fashion brands Springfield and Women ’secret.

Udupi, May 25: In an early morning robbery, two miscreants snatched around 1.2 kilo grams of gold jewelleries from a jeweller and ran away in Udupi.

The incident took place at around 5:30 am near Beedinagudde junction when jeweller Vijay was carrying the gold for lapidary work from his house at Bannanje to his store at Sri Laxmi Towar in Beedinagudde. 

They bumped into him when he going to the second floor of the Sri Laxmi Towar.

According to him, the miscreants who were wearing helmets threatened him with a knife then robbed jewelleries worth around Rs 50 lakh.

While decamping, the robbers also snatched his mobile phone and threw down from building.

Udupi town police conducted the spot investigation and registered a case. Further investigations are on.
