Mangalore, June 26: The Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation will be disbursing loan and subsidies under eight different schemes. However, not many applications have been received from Sullia taluk and Christians, pointed out Corporation President A N Aboobaker.

Addressing a press meet, Aboobaker said that June 30 is the last date to receive applications. He also said that he shall take up a tour to urge the minorities to apply for loans under various schemes in various districts.

The tour will begin from DK district, he said.

“The poor response from Sullia could be because of people being unable to submit applications to the Corporation office in Mangalore. Efforts will be made to address this problem,” he said.

The government has earmarked Rs 3.68 crore under the Christian Development Scheme.

Under Arivu Scheme, 409 applicants can receive Rs 81.80 lakhs. However, many have not applied.

Under the Shramashakthi scheme, the target is to disburse loan of Rs 81.80 lakh to 409 individuals.

However, only 175 applications have been received so far, he regretted.

Under the Micro Loan Subsidy scheme 817 beneficiaries have been allotted with Rs 81.70 lakhs but only 103 applications have been received,he said.

In 2012-13, Rs 100 crore has been earmarked for the minorities in the state and Rs 22.50 crore has been allotted for the Christians.

For the DK district, Rs 7.03 crore has been allotted for minorities and Rs 3.68 crore for the Christian development scheme. A total of Rs 10.71 crores has been allotted for minorities in the district.

In the current year, the target is to disburse Rs 43.2 lakh to 288 beneficiaries in the Swawalambana 'Margin' Money Loan Scheme.

Hence, a total of Rs 7.03 crore has been earmarked among 3,972 beneficiaries, he added.

Aboobaker revealed that as many as 9,946 beneficiaries were given a sum of Rs 176.2 crore in the last three years.

However, this year more amount has been earmarked for minorities. In the year 2008-09, about Rs 3.48 crore, in 2009-10 Rs 3.73 crore, in 2010-11 4.63 crore and in the year 2011-12, Rs 5.76 crore had been earmarked, he revealed.

Shivamogga, Feb 1: A three-year-old girl who fell out of a moving vehicle had a miraculous escape in Agumbe Ghat section in Teerthahalli taluk of Shivamogga district of Karnataka.

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday when 12 members from three different families were returning from a tour of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The girl was reunited with her family after 30 minutes of high drama.

The child, identified as Anavi, is believed to have fallen from the vehicle as it negotiated hairpin bends on the Agumbe Ghat road, 350km from Bengaluru. The child's parents, Binu and Lincy, from NR Pura in Chikkamagaluru district, and other family members reportedly dozed off and did not realize the child had fallen off the vehicle until they covered a distance of about 20km.

One of the family members noticed that child was missing from the seat next to the door. When the driver realized the door latch had given way, they suspected the child could have slipped out of the vehicle.

Then the family started searching along the road and learnt from a forest guard at the Agumbe checkpost that a missing child was found and it had been handed over to Agumbe police station.

An advocate who identified himself as Vinay spotted the girl child as he passed the deserted stretch minutes after the vehicle left and picked her up and handed her over to Agumbe police.

The child sustained minor injuries in the fall. She was provided medical treatment before she was handed over to the parents.

Sources said it wasn't known how the vehicle door opened. One theory is that the girl could have accidentally unlocked the door while clutching the latch in the bumpy ride on the ghat. Police did not file any complaint.

Similar incident

This incident is almost a rerun of a Kerala incident in which a one-year-old baby fell off a moving jeep and was reunited with its mother hours later in September 2019 in Idukki district.

The baby had slipped off the mother's arms while she dozed off in the vehicle. CCTV footage showed the baby, after falling on the road, crawling towards a lit-up area close by, which turned out to be a forest checkpost. Family realised child was missing after 20km.

Bengaluru, Apr 12: The Karnataka government is studying in-depth the consequences of the possible relaxation of lockdown norms after April 14 and plans to come out with a clear roadmap in a day or two, a key Minister said on Sunday.

Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar, who is in charge of all matters related to COVID-19, told PTI that the pros and cons of any decision that the Government intends to take is being looked at in detail.

"We are trying to understand how the situation would be of any action that we intend to take. We need to foresee the repercussions or results of our action. That we have to keep it in mind and make a decision. After-effects of the decisions we intend to take, that is more important, he said. You will have clarity (on the possible relaxation of lockdown norms) in a day or two. For everything (government decisions) we will give the reasoning for what action we would like to take; with the reasoning, we will give a decision," the Minister added.

Government sources said some relaxation in liquor sales, stopped during the lock-down period, is likely after the ongoing 21-day national clampdown ends on April 14. Twelve of the state's 30 districts remain free from the COVID-19 pandemic. Till Saturday, Karnataka reported 215 COVID-19 positive cases, including six deaths and 39 discharges.
