Srinivas students come up with their own 'Coconut Dehusking Machine'

Mangalore, June 28: A group of students from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, have come up with a novel 'Coconut Dehusking Machine'.

The machine peels of coconut husk through a mechanically controlled device. It can dehusk 120 coconuts in an hour.

Final year B.E Mechanical Engineering students Ashwin M Kamath, Rahul R Kamath, Santhosh P Saldanha and V Sudhir Rao are the ones behind this project. They were guided by Prof. Ramesh Kumar K R.

Students who made this machine are of the opinion that the device can be of great use in coastal areas where coconut production is more besides being useful in coconut oil extraction industries, temples etc.

Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology rendered financial assistance for the project. Dr. Dilip Kumar K, Head of the Department, and Dr. Srinivasa Mayya D, Principal, administered the project.

Woman who came from Saudi Arabia hospitalized in Manipal over corona scare

Udupi, Mar 11: An elderly woman, who had recently visited Saudi Arabia has been admitted to an isolation ward at KMC in Manipal, here with symptoms of fever, cough and breathlessness.

The 68-year-old woman hails from Sagar taluk in Shivamogga district of Karnataka.

The patient had travelled to Saudi Arabia in the last week of February and was treated for fever cough and breathlessness there.

After recovery, she had travelled back to Bengaluru, where she was screened at the airport.

Later, she reached Shivamogga where she was treated at Nanjappa Hospital for symptoms of fever, cough.

As she has symptoms of coronavirus, she is quarantined and is under observation. The samples will have been sent to Bengaluru and the result is awaited.

Mangaluru | Miscreants pour kerosene on 200kg beef, thrash driver after waylaying vehicle

Mangaluru, June 21: A gang of miscreants intercepted a goods auto-rickshaw which was legally transporting beef from an abattoir to market and attacked its driver in heart of the city this morning.

The attack comes exactly a week after a gang of Bajrang Dal miscreants thrashed a cattle trader at Urwa while legally transporting four buffalos to Kudroli abattoir on June 13.

Today, a person identified as Abdul Rasheed was transporting around 200 kilograms of beef from Kudroli abattoir to Kankanady market.

Meanwhile, miscreants began to chase beef laden vehicle and managed to waylay it near Highland Hospital. They thrashed Abdul Rasheed and poured kerosene on the beef besides damaging the vehicle.

The miscreants fled in their car and motorbikes after passersby began to gather.

Dear DC Dr. Harsha, we want to know if you will take strict action on these anti nationals / rowdis / day robbers / terrorists who ransacked auto + beaten the auto driwer and stolen Rs. 10,000 from him though he was legally transporting the meat. They same terrorists are involved in transporting live animals to beef export houses in Gujrat owned by Brahmins / Jains. Will you be loyal to your duty and promise. We will see how you will handle the issue failing which you will lose our respect and we will consider you as a dramabaz and phenku. You should follow the law and treat everyone equally. There should not be any pity on goondas/ terrorists belonging to sangh parivar. The terrorists who thrashed the auto driver and damaged the auto and burnt the meat by pouring kerosene are not human beings and should be treated as anti nationals + terrorists. We hope you will discharge your duty as per the oath taken by you while accepting your post.

IAF hospital in Bengaluru to carry out Covid19 tests

Bengaluru, Mar 27: The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Wednesday said it has created nine quarantine facilities of 200-300 personnel capacity each at its nodal bases across the country to combat the outbreak of novel coronavirus.
"To monitor the prevailing situation and provide immediate response and assistance as required, a 24x7 crisis management cell has been set up at the IAF Headquarters and various Command Headquarters," stated an IAF press release.
IAF aircraft are continuing to fly in medical supplies and doctors to Leh and fly out blood samples for COVID-19 testing to Chandigarh and Delhi, the release noted.
"Command Hospital Air Force Bangalore (CHAFB) has been designated as the first laboratory in the IAF to undertake COVID-19 testing, which will greatly enhance the region's ability to carry out quick testing of suspected cases and allow prompt and timely intervention where required," it mentioned.
All measures and directives issued by the government towards containing the spread of COVID-19 have been strictly enforced across all IAF stations, the release stated.
"The Indian Air Force continues to take measures to provide all possible assistance to civil administration across the country in containing the spread of COVID-19. The IAF has created nine quarantine facilities of 200-300 personnel capacity each at nodal IAF bases across the country," the release noted.
