Srinivas students come up with their own 'Coconut Dehusking Machine'

Mangalore, June 28: A group of students from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, have come up with a novel 'Coconut Dehusking Machine'.

The machine peels of coconut husk through a mechanically controlled device. It can dehusk 120 coconuts in an hour.

Final year B.E Mechanical Engineering students Ashwin M Kamath, Rahul R Kamath, Santhosh P Saldanha and V Sudhir Rao are the ones behind this project. They were guided by Prof. Ramesh Kumar K R.

Students who made this machine are of the opinion that the device can be of great use in coastal areas where coconut production is more besides being useful in coconut oil extraction industries, temples etc.

Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology rendered financial assistance for the project. Dr. Dilip Kumar K, Head of the Department, and Dr. Srinivasa Mayya D, Principal, administered the project.

Elderly woman, middle aged son test positive for covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, Apr 27: Two more people including an elderly woman have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Dakshina Kannada.

With this the total number of covid-19 cases in the district reached 21, though most of them have recovered and returned home.

In its today's bulletin, the health and family welfare department confirmed that a 45-year-old man and his 80-year-old mother tested positive for the deadly disease.

It is learnt that one of them had undergone treatment at a private hospital where a woman from Bantwal, who died of covid-19, was being treated for breathing difficulties, before she was shifted to Wenlock Hospital which is now converted into covid-19 hospital.

Landslide at borewell site: Man trapped in 15-feet deep hole rescued after 6 hours

Udupi, Feb 16: A man, who was trapped in 15-feet-deep hole following a landslide during borwell digging work at a remote area in the coastal district, was finally rescued after a prolonged effort today.

The man, identified as Rohit, suffered minor injuries in the incident.

The incident took place at Maravanthe village near Baindur in Udupi district.

Rohit was trapped when the land around borewell was being dug collapsed suddenly. It took around six hours for the rescue workers to rescue him.

Women lead massive protest demanding liquor ban in Karnataka

Bagalkote, Jan 27: The bank of Krishna River in front of Sangamantha Temple at Koodalasangama in Karnataka today witnessed the launch of women’s indefinite strike demanding liquor ban in the state.

Thousands of women from various parts of Karnataka have taken part in the strike being organised under the banner of 'Karnataka Madya Nisheda Andolana'.

The strike was launched to draw the attention of the state government to press for a complete ban on the sale of liquor across the state.

About 50 various organizations and religious pontiffs have extended their support for the strike. Food is being cooked on the bank of the river for the agitating women.

The women from Chikmagalur, Tumakuru, Raichur and Ballari districts are taking part in it.
