Srinivas students come up with their own 'Coconut Dehusking Machine'

Mangalore, June 28: A group of students from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, have come up with a novel 'Coconut Dehusking Machine'.

The machine peels of coconut husk through a mechanically controlled device. It can dehusk 120 coconuts in an hour.

Final year B.E Mechanical Engineering students Ashwin M Kamath, Rahul R Kamath, Santhosh P Saldanha and V Sudhir Rao are the ones behind this project. They were guided by Prof. Ramesh Kumar K R.

Students who made this machine are of the opinion that the device can be of great use in coastal areas where coconut production is more besides being useful in coconut oil extraction industries, temples etc.

Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology rendered financial assistance for the project. Dr. Dilip Kumar K, Head of the Department, and Dr. Srinivasa Mayya D, Principal, administered the project.

Assan, Feb 9: Coming down heavily on Amit Shah, JDS supremo HD Deve Gowda said that the Union Home Minister is dreaming of a Hindu nation. Addressing the crowd at an anti-CAA/NRC rally in Hassan, he said that the Home Minister has forgotten that India is a secular, multi-lingual country.

“Shah cannot make India into a Hindu nation. People should come forward and oppose the Acts in the interest of peace and welfare of the nation,” the former PM said, urging secular leaders to unite and fight against the undemocratic policies put forth by the Centre.

“Only secular forces can protect minorities by taking to the streets,” he said. Talking about the controversy around former Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde’s statements, Gowda said BJP leaders are airing anti-national comments, which is disturbing peace. “Muslims, Christians and Hindus should unite to fight against the BJP’s unilateral decisions.”

Mangaluru, Jul 4: Normal life was thrown out of gear as heavy rain under the influence of South East Monsoon started lashing coastal districts of Karnataka including Dakshina Kannada on Saturday.

The heavy rain is likely to continue till July 7, according to the meteorological experts. 

The water level in Netravati river is increasing and district administration has warned the people living in the low lying areas and has asked them to move to safer places.

Owing to lack of storm water drains, water logging of the roads inconvenienced the motorists at KS Rao Road, Pumpwell, Bejai, and other areas. 

The Met department sounded warning for fishermen not to venture into the sea observing that strong winds with speed reaching 50-60 kmph are likely to prevail over Southwest and West Central Arabian Sea till July 5.

Amidst heightened border tensions between Indian and China, senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's two year old tweet comparing his party with Communist Party of China started going viral. 

The tweet, dated 26 June, 2016 reads: "Communist Party of China & BJP have done numerous works in social field. This way, there is tremendous similarities between the two parties." (sic)

Twitterati dug up this tweet after over 20 Indian Army personnel, including a colonel, were killed in a clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh earlier this week.

Soon after Chouhan's tweet went viral, netizens took to the micro-blogging site and slammed BJP. One user said, "Interesting comment by Hindutva ITSELF to recognise how similar they are with China. No doubt. Both believe in Dragon Throne .... and brutal absolute control." Another user said, "No wonder the BJP & China both agree that PLA never crossed into Indian territory."
