Mangalore, June 28: Rtn. Dr. B. Devdas Rai, an eminent physician and Professor of Medicine, A.J. Institute of Health Sciences has been elected as the R.I.Dist.3180 Governor for the year 2012-13.

The Installation Ceremony will be held on Saturday at St. Sebastian Hall Mangalore at 07:15 p.m. The outgoing Dist Governor Rtn. H.L. Ravi will hand over the reigns of the Rotary district to Rtn. Dr. Rai. Rotary International Director Elect Chennai based Rtn. P.T. Prabhakar will be the chief guest and release the Rotary District Member's Directory.

Eminent Consultant Orhtopaedic Surgeon and Vice Chancellor of Nitte University Prof. Shantharam Shetty will be the guest of honour on this occasion and deliver the felicitation address.

The Governor will focus on the main District Projects, such as Student-Parent Insurance Scheme, Integrated Community Development, School Support Scheme and Jeeva Sanjivini and will ensure that it will be implemented successfully during his tenure.

R.I.Dist.3180 comprises of 8 revenue districts: D.K., Udupi, Kodagu, Chamarajnagar, Chickmagalur, Shimoga, Mysore, Hassan districts consisting of 135 Rotary clubs and 5100 Rotarian members. Rotary is the world's first voluntary service organization engaged in the community development oriented services.

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Congress is confused on the Ram Mandir issue and in dilemma to take a firm stand fearing loss of Muslim or Hindu votes, according to BJP leader and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi.

"Congress opposed BJP's stand on constructing Ram Mandir in Ayodya, it called Lord Ram fictional and even decided to break the Ramsetu. Now, Congressmen are speaking the other way. Congress cannot think beyond vote bank politics which is in its DNA itself. Congressmen think that they are born to be in power," he said while speaking to media persons. 

He said that BJP is all for constructing a grand Ram Mandir peacefully and legally, due to its conviction and not for politics. Same was the case with the revocation of Article 370 for Jammu & Kashmir. Anti-national activities have comparatively come down now. 

Some people do not want everything going smoothly in the country, and Congress and Asaduddin Owaisi are among them, Joshi opined, adding that the Congress is merely frustrated.

Mangaluru, Jul 2:  A seven-day old baby boy was tested positive for Covid-19, Health Department officials said on Thursday.

The infant is currently undergoing treatment at a designated Covid Hospital here. The baby was born at a private hospital in the city last week. 

According to the officials, it was not known as to how the newborn contracted the infection.

Udupi, Jul 8: A 15-year-old boy belonging to Saligrama in Udupi district, who was under home quarantine with his mother, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself yesterday.

His throat swabs were sent for testing. The report received today and it showed that he did not have coronavirus.
 
The boy, a class ten student studying in Kota, was quarantined along with his mother at home after a person in a family, where she was working as a maid tested positive for Covid-19.

The boy is suspected to have taken the extreme step out of depression as he was not allowed to go out. The last rites were held today.
