Coastal Security and Marine Academy may come up in Udupi

dgp30 Udupi, June 30: Director General and Inspector General Police Lalrokhuma Pachau on Friday visited Udupi and inspected the preparedness of Coastal Security Police at its Malpe station.

Speaking on the occasion Pachau said that the department had sent a proposal to the Central Government for setting up a Coastal Security and Marine Academy at Otthinene, in Udupi district. For the purpose, a 100 acres of land has also been required he said.

At the Academy police personnel from 9 states will be trained in 3 units, he added.

KArnataka already has five Coastal Security Police stations and has sanctioned four more stations in Hejamady, Gangolly, Belekeri and Honnavara. Each CSP stations will be provided with 12 tonn capacity speed boats. 220 police personnel will also be recruited for the CSP. Apart from Malpe and Tadadi where the works of exclusive Jetty's for CSO, is under progress, proposal from seven more Jetty's is before the government.

He also said the Head Quarter of the Coastal Security Police will be developed at Malpe.

He also informed that police personnel, in 25 teams, have been trained in Cuba Diving too.

Karnataka Health Minister Sriramulu tests positive for covid-19

Bengaluru, Aug 9: karnataka's Health Minister B Sriramulu has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. He has been hospitalised and is being treated for Covid-19. The minister has also asked all of those who came in contact with him recently to take necessary precautions.

Sriramulu made the announcement in a series of tweets on Sunday. He said, “After symptoms of flu, I have tested positive for coronavirus today.”

“Under the leadership of Honorable Chief Minister (BS Yediyurappa), all the departments of the government, including my department, have been working hard against Covid-19. From the time of corona's appearance, I have had the opportunity to visit 30 districts and work in harmony with the government's desire to treat people well. It is in this backdrop that I am going to be hospitalized and treated,” B Sriramulu said.

Karnataka’s Health Minister also added, “All those who have been in contact with me recently have been requested to take precautionary measures.”

Earlier this month, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa also tested positive for Covid-19. The state's Leader of Opposition and former CM Siddaramaiah of the Congress also declared that his samples too had returned positive for the infection. Both of the leaders are undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at the privately-owned Manipal hospital in Bengaluru.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Karnataka has 79,773 active cases while a total of 89,238 patients have been discharged in the state after recovering from Covid-19 and 3091 have succumbed to it.

Mangaluru to get 15 smart CCTV cameras in sensitive places

Mangaluru, Jan 5: To keep an hawk's eye on the city, 15 prominent and crowded junctions in the city will have the most advanced CCTV cameras installed under the Smartcity project.

The junctions are-- Bejai KSRTC, Pumpwell, Vamanjoor, Padil, Mullikatte, Bejai, Bendoor, Falnir, Morgans Gate, Kulashekara-Shakthinagar Cross, Kottara Chowki, Kuntikan, Rao & Rao Circle, Padavinangady and Kavoor junctions.

According to top police officials, these junctions will receive approximately 75 cameras to check crime and aid in solving the cases of murder and robbery in the city.

A ‘smartpole’ will be installed there with each pole containing about five cameras along with a 360 degree swivelling camera.

Won't discontinue Backward Class students scholarship: Karnataka CM

Bengaluru, Jun 16: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday instructed that despite financial constraints don't cut scholarships of the students belonging to Backward Class (BC) across the state.

Speaking at a review meeting of the Social Welfare Department at his home office 'Krishna' here, he said the department has achieved 97 per cent in implementation of the government programmes.

He said that among the BC students who were given training for the competitive examinations, two selected for IAS, two IPS, 13 IRS and another 268 students have been selected for various competitions and selected for the jobs.
