Rain takes toll on high way; fish-laden truck plunges into pond

Kundapur, June 30: The heavy rains which lashed the district for the last few days, has taken a toll on the national highway, state highway and other roads.


All the roads were seen inundated in Kundapur. The road from Herikudru bridge to Hemmadi on NH 66 is in deplorable condition with water logged roads, following artificial floods due to lack of storm water drains.


Owing to the negligence of the National Highway, the depth of the potholes has increased over a period.


A mini swimming pool has been created in potholes, at Kundapur Market yard, Anagalli Cross Road, in front of KSRTC bus shelter. Two-wheeler riders have to negotiate the deep potholes often filled with muddy water.


Owing to the deplorable condition of the road, a fish laden lorry driver lost control over the vehicle and plunged into prawn cultivation pond at Thallur on Thursday.

Tirumala, Jul 16: As many as 14 priests of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) were tested positive for COVID-19 in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, said Anil Kumar Singhal, Executive officer, TTD.

Singhal also held a meeting with temple priests, health and vigilance officials today.

On July 14, Singhal held 'Dial your EO' programme at TTD administrative building conference hall wherein the EO addressed the devotees and media and informed that 91 TTD employees have tested positive for COVID-19 till date.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the state has reported 35,451 COVID-19 cases including, 16,621 active cases, 18,378 recovered and 452 deaths so far.

Bengaluru, April 7: Karnataka government on Monday allowed bakeries and related product food units in the state to open and function with minimum staff amid a coronavirus nation-wide lockdown.

A circular issued by Rajendar Kumar Kataria, Secretary to the government said, "The Central government has permitted the functioning of food units engaged in bakery and biscuit, condiments, confectionery and sweet for manufacturing, supply and operating retail outlets with minimum staff/labour."

The circular said these units shall strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Department of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka government with regard to the preventive measures to be ensured for combating COVID-19.

"It is stated that all employers shall ensure that these units maintain high standard of health, hygiene, sanitation and social distancing. The units shall not permit serving/dining in the premises and only parcel/takeaways are permitted," the circular added.

Bengaluru, Jan 7: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths held an international bookie in connection with the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) betting scam and spot-fixing racket, police said on Tuesday.

The bookie was identified as Jitin Sait (32), a native of Sonipat in Haryana.

'We had obtained and issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Sait, and on Sunday, he was caught after he landed at the Kempegowda International Airport from the Netherlands.
