Mangalore, July 2: More men than women should read the book on menopause as it will help them understand women better, especially when the latter are going through it, said Shahnaz, Chief Editor, Anupama Kannada monthly. She was speaking in the city on Sunday at an event to launch a book titled Muttina Mussanjeyalli.

Dr. Rathi Devi, Professor, Kasturba Medical College (KMC) and author of the book, said that women must go for annual medical checkups to prevent bigger problems later. The book tells readers how to manage the physical and health changes in women during menopause.

She said that women going through menopause might get irritable, angry, upset or cry over small things. It was a time when they felt that they were alienated and that their husbands and children did not care for them. For the husband and the family to understand women better when they were going through the phase, they must know about menopause and its effects on women, she said.

Ms. Shahnaz said that combining the study of medicine with writing was an unusual combination. Harikrishna Punaroor, former president of State Kannada Sahitya Parishat, who inaugurated the event, said that a person might have wealth but one could not buy health. He said that women, with ageing, had to counter a host of health issues with menopause.

Dr. Rathi Devi's mentor, Chakrapani Udupa, former principal of Poornaprajna Pre-University College, Admar, and his wife, Shakuntala, were felicitated.

K. Mohandas Bhandary, Vice-President, Indian Medical Association Karnataka Chapter, said 50 per cent of the patients did not need medicines and they just needed a good word told to them.

Dr. Shakunthala M.M., Medical Superintendent, Government Lady Goschen Hospital, said that Dr. Rathi Devi had become a doctor after facing several challenges and obstacles.

Bengaluru, Apr 17: Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, married Revathi, grand-niece of former Congress Minister for Housing, M Krishnappa, on Friday.

According to sources, more than 100 people participated in the marriage ceremony held at Kumaraswamy's farmhouse in Kethaganahally, Ramanagara.

There were around 50-60 members from former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's family and more than 30 people participated from Revathi's family, sources added.

This comes in the middle of a nationwide lockdown which has been imposed to deal with the coronavirus threat.

Earlier, HD Kumaraswamy had said that the marriage ceremony would be held behind closed doors in the presence of family members.

Nikhil Kumaraswamy, who contested the Lok Sabha election from Mandya, is also the national youth wing president of Janata Dal-Secular.

Bengaluru, Feb 23: Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers DV Sadananda Gowda on Sunday said that several "anti-national organisations" were misusing the platform of anti-CAA protests.

"We have taken serious note of it and have started an investigation. Several anti-national organisations are misusing the platform of anti-CAA protests and many people are trying to take political advantage of this situation," he told the media on Sunday.

Gowda said that the government is "very serious" about the issue. "We are already working towards this. Both the state and Centre are together investigating into this," he said and added, "We will ensure that we cut this and will not allow this to grow. We will investigate the organisers of the event as well."

"If you are inviting such people (alleged anti-national elements), it means that you either know about it or that you are indirectly encouraging such things. In such situations, the organisers too will be acted upon," he stressed.

Belagavi, Jan 17: Maharashtra Minister of State for Public Health, Medical Education, FDA and Textiles Rajendra Patil-Yadravkar who had come here to participate in the martyrs day programme of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) was detained by the police and escorted back till the state borders on Friday.

MES had organised its annual martyrs day programme at Hutatma Circle here. Its leaders had earlier been asked by the District Administration and City Police to ensure that none of the political leaders from Maharashtra participate and create law and order problems by their anti-state statements.

Patil had managed to sneak into the city through a route which was not manned by the police. He came in an auto-rickshaw to the programme venue.

Police personnel present for security took him into their custody and later escorted him till the state’s borders with Maharashtra at Kognoli on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway.

MES leaders alleged that the police personnel violated protocol while taking the incumbent minister into their custody and they also roughed him up.

All vehicles entering the city from different routes and particularly from Maharashtra were screened to confirm that political leaders from the neighbouring state do not participate in the martyrs day programme and create problems by their statements that also affect law and order along with linguistic harmony.

It was not known if Patil had landed in the city on Thursday and managed to reach the programme venue without getting noticed by using an auto-rickshaw.
