Mangalore, July 7: With Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda set to lose the chair to Lingayat leader Jagadish Shettar, the “conscientious citizens” former's home-district have launched a campaign to save their fovourite CM.

Expressing frustration over the escalated campaign to overthrow Mr Gowda and to destabilize his government, Jaago Mangalore Association has called upon the people of the state, especially his home district Dakshina Kannada, to openly come out in support of him for the good of the state.

“Being conscientious citizens of the country, we strongly condemn this male fide and anti-democratic movement against the incumbent government of Mr Gowda, who has an unblemished track record”, stated JMA in a release.

“Our beloved chief minister is among the best chief ministers Karnataka has ever seen. His smiling face and childlike sincerity have brought stability to the state and restored confidence to the people after he was appointed 11 months ago”, it said.

“Before DVS assumed office, the state was in a big mess and there were lot of corruption charges against the earlier CM B S Yediyurappa and his ministers. The political situation was very volatile and the then government was too busy fighting for its daily survival. People had completely lost faith in Mr Yediyurappa's governance. In stark contrast to that, after Mr Gowda took charge, the government has been functioning very smoothly. This has happened because Mr Gowda is not only an able administrator, but also he is clean, transparent, honest and dedicated to his duties of office”, the JMA said.

The JMA stated that Mr Gowda is becoming a victim of political conspiracy basically because he is not allowing the present leaders and politicians to loot the economy. If the people of Karnataka do not support him today we will lose him and we will lose our future as well, it said.

The association also requested the people to send their message of support to Governor Dr.Hans Raj Bhardwaj saying they wanted Mr Gowda to continue as the chief minister of Karnataka' to his e-mail [email protected] or to the chief minister's office: [email protected]

Mangaluru, July 18: The Dakshina Kannada district administration is likely to earmark a common burial ground in the wake of growing resistance from residents of various localities in Mangaluru against burial of Covid-19 victims in their vicinity.

Recently, following protests by residents on Bolar, the body of a Covid-19 victim remained in the ambulance for hours together. The residents refused to allow the victim to be laid to rest at a burial ground attached to a mosque. The victim, who had been a resident of Idya in Surathkal, was subsequently laid to rest after DC’s intervention.

In a bid to avoid such instances in the future, the district administration has identified a burial ground on the outskirts of Mangaluru.

Former minister and incumbent Mangaluru MLA UT Khader said that he had discussed the problem at length with the officials of the Dakshina Kannada district administration, and had suggested they look for a relatively isolated space on the outskirts of Mangaluru city in order to avoid confrontation with the public.

“A parcel of land at Badaga Yekkuru, some 20km from the city has been identified as being suitable for the burial ground, but the district administration is yet to take a final decision,” Khader said.
