BJP will suffer for its decision to remove DVS, warn Vokkaligas

Mangalore, July 10: The BJP will suffer in the days to come for its decision to remove D V Sadananda Gowda from the Chief Minister's post, said D P Sadananda Gowda, Treasurer, Vokkaligara Yane Gowdara Seva Sangha.

Addressing media persons at Press Club in Mangalore on Tuesday, Mr. Gowda said that the community will give a suitable answer for the move in the elections.

The Sangha demanded that D V Sadananda Gowda should be allowed to continue as Chief Minister of the state. If the party is adamant at removing him from the post, it must make sure that he is given the post of the BJP State President. Mr. Gowda has held the position in the past and during his tenure, it was possible for many BJP candidates to win elections and subsequently form a government. He must therefore be given the post back, the Sangha demanded.

The Sangha also demanded that the party explain the reasons for Mr. Gowda's ouster from the CM's post. Representatives of the Sangha also said that that more Vokkaliga MLAs must be accommodated in the state cabinet.

NRI Habeeb Ur Rahiman Uppinangady conferred doctorate

Newsroom, Feb 10: Habeeb Ur Rahiman, a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at Kingdom University Bahrain, has been awarded doctorate from the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.

He has completed his thesis Influence of Quality of Work Life, Ego Status and Job Attitude on Organisational Commitment and Productivity of Bank Employees under the guidance of Prof Rashmi Kodikal.

Habeeb Ur Rahiman is the son of Yusuf and Ayisha couple from Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada district.

After obtaining his Master Degree (MBA, Finance) from Visvesvaraya Technological University in 2012, he had worked in Bearys First Grade College, Kundapura and P A College of Engineering, Mangaluru before migrating to Bahrain.

Karnataka govt takes a U-turn, says yet to decide on extension of online class ban till Class 7

Bengaluru, Jun 11: Within hours after claiming that it has decided to prohibit schools from schools from conducting online classes till Class 7, the Karnataka government has taken a U-turn and said that currently than ban is only till Class 5.

“Karnataka Govt has decided to stop all online classes for LKG, UKG & classes up to 5th std. To extend this up to 7th std is only a suggestion from few cabinet ministers as expressed in an informal discussion and NOT a decision,” tweeted Prime and Secondary Minister Suresh Kumar.

Law Minister J C Madhuswamy earlier today had stated that the decision to ban online classes till 7th standard was taken by the government. "All of us were of the opinion that there were challenges faced by students studying in rural areas. Hence, we urged the government to extend the ban on online classes till 7 standard," he said

'Tourism in Karntaka to be promoted in a phased manner'

Bengaluru, May 24: Karnataka Tourism Minister CT Ravi said that coronavirus lockdown has severely marred the tourism industry in the state and the government will revive it in a phased manner.

"It would be beneficial if hotels are opened keeping in mind few restrictions. At present, the tourism industry has fallen flat making it very difficult to promote tourism in the state," Ravi said.

"Our department has planned to promote tourism in a phased manner. In the first phase, we would focus on native tourism; then in the second phase, we will promote inter-district travel; in the third phase, we will put weight behind inter-state tourism and in the fourth phase, we would be promoting international travel and tourism," he added.

Karnataka's COVID-19 count surges to 1,958 with 216 new cases of the virus reported in the last 24 hours, said the Health Department in a bulletin on Saturday.

Out of the total number of cases, 1,307 patients are active cases and 608 patients have been discharged. The total number of fatalities due to COVID-19 in the state has risen to 42.
