Mangalore, July 12: Dakishina Kannada unit of Karnataka State Government Employees Association organized a felicitation ceremony to the former president of the association H. Sanjeeva, at New Auditorium of the association here on Wednesday.

MLA U T Khader felicitated Sanjeeva for his service for the society. Speaking on the occasion, Khader appreciated the selfless service of the government employees. He said they work impartially for the betterment of the society. He also urged the state government to avail housing loans to the government employees at 3 per cent interest rate.

After accepting the felicitation, Mr Sanjeeva extended gratitude for the members of the association.

Mangalore Bar Council President S P Chengappa and President of Karantaka State Employees Association George Pinto also spoke on the occasion.

ADC Excise Poovappa Gowda, Vishalakshi Sanjeeva and Niaranjan Murthy and others were present. Vice President of the Karantaka State Employees Association Rajendra Prasad welcomed the gathering.

'110-year-old' woman wins battle against COVID-19 in Karnataka

Chitradurga, Aug 2: Said to be 110-years-old, a grand old woman Siddamma was discharged on Saturday from a COVID Hospital in Chitradurga after recovering from the novel coronavirus.

According to Dr Basavaraj, District Surgeon, Chitradurga, the woman had tested positive for the disease on July 27.

After her recovery, the frail woman dressed in a sari was seen being wheeled out from the hospital.

As many as 5,172 new COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Saturday, taking the state's count of coronavirus cases to 1,29,287.

The active cases in the state now stand at 73,219 while 53,648 people have been discharged.

"5,172 new COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking total cases to 1,29,287 including 53,648 discharges and 2,412 deaths.

The number of active cases stands at 73,219," said State Health Department.

So far, a total of 2,412 people have succumbed to the virus in the State.

Tabassum wins Mangaluru Press Club Award for service to HIV affected children

Mangaluru, Feb 19: Social worker Tabassum who has been rendering selfless service to HIV/AIDS affected children through her shelter home 'Snehadeep' at Bejai has been selected for the Annual Award of Mangaluru Press Club for the year 2019.

Tabassum, a resident of Konaje was chosen by a team of judges comprising Prof Balakrishna Gatti, Dr Vasanth Kumar Perla and Dr Nagaveni Manchi.

1-month-old baby dies as 10 private hospitals refuse treatment over corona fears

Bengaluru, July 17: An infant with heart-related complications died after 10 private hospitals in the city allegedly refused to admit him over coronavirus fears.

In search of a hospital to treat his one-month-old child, the helpless father drove around for 200km in the city. The child breathes its last after suffering for 36 hours.

The infant’s health worsened around 11am on Sunday. “A doctor from a nearby clinic visited our house and said the baby had heart-related issues. As advised, we decided to shift the child to a private hospital,” the father said. The family lives in Basaveshwaranagar.

The parents went to several private hospitals, but in vain. “We visited hospitals in Bavaveshwaranagar, Chord Road, Sheshadripuram, Goraguntepalya and Yeshwanthpur. None of them agreed to treat our baby, and we returned home at night,” the father said.

“On Monday morning, we started the journey again. This time, we went to a hospital near Jayadeva flyover. We were driving near Marathahalli when our child stopped breathing. We rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead,” he said.
