Karwar, July 12: A person was killed after a truck rammed into his bike at Mudubhatkal on National Highway 17 in Bhatkal here on Thursday.
The victim is 32-year-old Ramachandra Masti Naik, a resident of Gulmi village.
The incident occurred when he was moving towards Kundapur on his two-wheeler, the speeding truck mowed him down.
The errant driver managed to flee from the scene.
The Bhatkal police have registered a case.
Bengaluru, May 8: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has announced a special package for those involved in leather works, especially those who work on the roadside, informed the state's Deputy Chief Minister Govind M Karjol on Friday.
The special package has been announced for cobblers and leather workers, who work on the roadside.
The government has provided relief to 11,722 families at a rate of Rs 5,000 per family. These beneficiaries will be directly credited to their bank account through Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Leather Industries Development Corporation.
This special package will help livelihoods for skilled workers, said the Deputy Chief Minister. He congratulated the Chief Minister on the declaration of this special package on behalf of the Department of Social Welfare.
Bengaluru, Jul 31: A total of 5,483 new COVID-19 cases and 84 deaths were reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, the state's health department informed on Friday.
Karnataka now has a total of 1,24,115 coronavirus cases, including 72,005 active cases and 49,788 discharges.
So far, 2,134 deaths have been reported from the state.
Meanwhile, India reported the highest single-day spike of 55,079 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, crossing the 16-lakh mark, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed on Friday.
