Excise officials seize illegal liquor worth Rs.30,000

Mangalore, July 13: Officials of the Excise department seized illegal liquor worth Rs. 30,000 that was transported in nine bags near Suratkal railway station on Friday.

A team comprising of U Hoovappa Gowda, Assistant Commisser, Excise, Vijaykumar, Excise Superintendent, M Shivananda Gatty and others caught Umesh and Premjit of Kasaragod, who were taking care of the illegal liquor that had reportedly been transported to Mangalore from Goa.

The seized illegal liquor includes 2250 sachets of 90 ml of liquor along with 200-500 litres of Brandy.

The accused had reportedly received the delivery of the bags at the railway station and were waiting to transport them to another place when the Excise officials caught them following a tip-off.

Bengaluru, Apr 26: Three new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the state to 503 as per Karnataka government.

There are 302 active COVID-19 cases in Karnataka presently, while 182 patients have been discharged, 19 deaths have been reported, state government informed.

The total number of positive coronavirus cases across the country are 26,917, including 20,177 active cases of the virus. So far, 5,913 patients have either been cured or discharged while 826 deaths have been recorded in the country, as per data provided by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Yadgir, Jan 21: A bag was found abandoned at the Yadgir Bus Stand on Tuesday morning that left the commuters in panic.

After receiving the information, a police team, along with a sniffer dog, rushed to the spot. When the bag was checked, the police found clothes and cash in it.

It is stated that a passenger might have left the bag in a hurry to catch the bus.

Mangaluru, Jul 22: Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, within the metropolis, has obtained approval from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for testing SARS-CoV-2 virus by Real Time RT-PCR technique.

This has given a lift to the prevailing Covid-19 testing services in Dakshina Kannada, according to a press release by the AJ Institute here on Wednesday.

Institute Dean stated that devoted kiosk for pattern assortment has been opened in the hospital. Staff and technicians from the Department of Microbiology have undergone coaching in molecular testing at NIMHANS, Bengaluru.
