Two killed in separate road mishaps; six injured

Udupi/Bhatkal, July 15: Two persons were killed and six injured in three separate road accidents reported from Udupi and Karwar districts.


Mohammad Ibrahim Sahul Hameed (30) of Tattihakla was killed in a road accident at Shirali in Bhatkal taluk on Saturday. The police said that Hameed had gone to Uttarakoppa forest on a picnic along with four others. While returning, van driver Ijaz Ahmad Ali Akbar lost control over the vehicle which hit a roadside tree. Two persons were injured. The Bhatkal police have registered a case of negligent driving against Ijaz.

Wilfred Louis of Trasi

In another accident, a 46-year-old man died when a truck rammed the motorcycle he was riding at Hosadu village in Kundapur taluk on Saturday. According to the Gangolli police, Wilfred Louis of Trasi fell off his motorcycle and came under the wheels of the truck. He died on the spot. Rash and negligent driving by the truck driver is said to be the reason for the accident. A case has been registered at the Gangolli police station.



In the third accident, six persons were injured when a bus overturned at Santhekatte, Udupi on Saturday. The bus was carrying 21 tourists from Tumkur to Sri Krishna Temple in Udupi when the accident occurred.

Mysuru, Mar 7: Former minister and senior Congress leader and sitting MLA Tanveer Sait has shot off a letter to state Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai expressing his dissatisfaction over the slow progress in the investigations regarding the attack on him.

In the letter, which he released to the press on Saturday, he claimed that although the police have already arrested the culprit, but it is yet to find the real masterminds, leaders or organisation behind the attack.

Mr Sait urged the Home Minister to request the police to speed up their investigation and solve the case at the earliest and give him justice.

Bengaluru, Mar 25: Karnataka Minister Dr K Sudhakar has been allocated all matters related to COVID-19 by the Governor on the advice of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
Health Minister B Sriramulu, who earlier handled matters related to COVID-19, has been allotted the Backward Class Welfare Development portfolio.
Karnataka on Monday announced a complete lockdown in the state till April 1.
"In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the entire state will be locked down from 12 o'clock night of March 23 to April 1. People are requested to strictly follow it to contain the coronavirus spread," Yediyurappa had said.

Mangaluru, Feb 20: A wild tusker was spotted in Kukke Subrahmanya town here, in the early hours of Thursday.

Range Forest Officer (RFO), Kukke Subrahmanya Tyagaraj said that it was seen walking from Kashi Kattte in the town to Nuchila around 0530 hours without creating any havoc.

The same elephant was spotted some days ago at Harihara, a small village town near Kukke Subrahmanya.

It has been roaming around in the forests nearby for some time now. So far, it had not caused disturbance to people nor had it damaged any property, Mr. Tyagaraj said.

Kukke Subrahmanya is on the foot of the Western Ghats.
