Mangalore, July 15: The Bunt community of coastal region is hurt about Haladi Srinivas Shetty not being given a place in the Shettar cabinet. But with the BJP High Command granting me the ticket to Legislative Council, the wounds of Bunt community will be healed, said Monappa Bhandary.

Haladi Srinivas Shetty might have been hurt, but it is our duty to obey the directives of the High Command. His contributions to the society and BJP are immense. Although he has been pained by the recent developments, he must withdraw his offer to resign from BJP, Mr. Bhandary said.

BJP has never been unjust to the Bunt community. Therefore, the Bunt community will also not be unjust to the party. The moment it was clear that I would be making it to the Legislative Council, many leaders of Bunt associations and organisations called me up to congratulate me, he said.

Mr. Bhandary is almost certain to occupy the MLC seat vacated following the death of Dr. V S Acharya, as he was the only candidate to file nomination.

Admitting that he was expectating a shot at the MLC seat, Mr. Bhandary said that he is greatful to the leaders of the Sangh Parivar for showing their trust in him. The district has four BJP MLAs. A district-in-charge minister would also be decided soon. I will try to work out strategies to develop the district with them, he said.

Hailing from an RSS background, Mr. Bhandary studied law and is an advocate by profession. He has served as the President of BJP Yuva Morcha of undivided DK, State Vice President of BJP Yuva Morcha, Chief Secretary of Mangalore Town BJP and BJP DK District President in the past. He is also the current spokesperson of the district unit of the party.

He had contested the Legislative Council elections in the past but was defeated by Congress leader Blasius M D'Souza.
