Wooing of politicians begins ahead of Sriramulu's DK, Udupi visit

Mangalore, July 15: Sriramulu, the political heavyweight from Bellary who has been giving nightmares to BJP with his new party BSR Congress, is scheduled to visit Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts next month to strengthen his roots in the coastal belt. His supporters and party activists have already camped in the twin districts meeting politicians and social workers trying to get them in the party fold.

BSR Congress party activists are looking for able leaders to take the party forward in the region and are meeting former MLAs, former Zilla Panchayat Presidents, former Mayors and so on.

The BJP in particular and other parties such as the Congress and the JDS are not likely to take Sriramulu lightly, as he has begun setting up a base of admirers from the region already. Last month when he organized a convention in Bangalore, admirers from DK had reportedly travelled in three buses to take part in the event. Sriramulu is scheduled to organize similar conventions in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada on August 1 and 2.

Known names in coastal political circles Shakuntala Shetty and Nagaraj Shetty are expected to extend cooperation to Sriramulu, it is being said. The entire responsibility of arranging the programmes is being taken up by his local admirers.

Madikeri, Apr 5: Following the novel Coronavirus and imposition of Lockdown in the country and departure of the migrant labour force to their hometowns, the harvest of Pepper and post-harvest process of Coffee have taken a hit in Kodagu region of Karnataka.

In the Coffee land, most of the workers at these estates are primarily from north Karnataka and neighbouring districts, including Periyapatna and Hunsur taluks in Mysuru District. Local workers are also sourced for the job as the harvest area is large.

The Kodagu district which already faced severe natural calamity during the last two years now added with the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent Lockdown, many workers have returned to their home districts, barring a few who have been working in the plantations for many years and reside in the estates themselves.

Bengaluru, Jun 22: The opening of Schools in the state, is unlikely before Dasara festival, as a majority of the parents are averse to send their children due to the COVID-19 scare.

According to official sources, in the State education department, a majority of parents, who were asked to give their opinion on re-opening of schools in the state, have reportedly favoured continuing the closing of schools till September.

The primary and Secondary education department had received feedback from various stakeholders including educational institutions, parents and Teachers, clocking high towards not opening the schools for the 2020-21 academic year till Dasara days.

Mangaluru, May 13: Kannadigas in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have sought additional flights to return to Karnataka during a video conference with Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa here on Tuesday.

Noting that most of the ex-pats in UAE were from the coastal region, they urged the state government to ensure that most of these flights land in the Mangalore International Airport.

Many Kannadigas in the UAE were left unemployed due to the lockdown. “Many of them do not have the means to return to Karnataka and the state government should aid them,” representatives of various Kannadiga ex-pat groups urged the CM.

Yediyurappa said that the government has made all arrangements to bring back the ex-pats, and assured to fulfil all their demands.
