Swimming at sea: Two students feared dead

beach_copyBhatkal, July 15: Two students are feared dead after having drowned in Murudeshwar beach on Sunday evening.

The duo is Mohammad Hussein (16) and Rajasaab (17), students of SST high school in Byadagi, Haveri district.

The two of them along with nine other students had visited Murudeshwar on Sunday. The group ventured into the sea for swimming but the two of them could not come up after they were washed away by waves.

The search for their bodies is still on. Murudeshwar police are investigating the case.

Despite warning the tourists of the rough sea conditions as it is monsoon time, many tourists are stepping into the sea.

It can be recalled that on Sunday morning a student from Bangalore had been rescued by local people and fishermen.

Bengaluru, Jun 11: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday allowed the Opposition Congress party's newly elected state president DK Shivakumar to have a formal swearing-in function.

He told media, “I have spoken to Shivakumar and informed him to conduct the event after taking precautionary measures against the spread of the COVID-19 disease”.

The move came after the state government received flak from the main Opposition Congress leaders, for refusing to permit the newly elected State Congress president to have a formal swearing-in function take reigns from his predecessor Dinesh Gundu Rao.

Bengaluru, Jul 5: A 50-year-old woman with breathing difficulties died on Saturday after a shortage of beds forced 12 hospitals to refuse admission.

Her husband Babu said the family had approached 12 hospitals in three days, including Victoria Hospital and other private facilities, who all slammed their doors on them, citing a shortage of beds. The woman died on Saturday, a few minutes into her admission at KC General Hospital.

Second death 

A 35-year-old man, Manjunath, also died on Saturday after enduring fever for three days and being refused admission at several hospitals due to a shortage of beds.

As his condition worsened, his wife admitted him to a private hospital on Saturday after hours of ordeal. But the man died less than 15 minutes after getting admitted. Hospital authorities took swab samples from the deceased and said the body would be handed over after the test results.

BBMP personnel also failed to shift the body of a Covid-19 patient in Kalasipalya almost a day after the death.

Despite civic workers disinfecting the place, the neighbours were in a state of panic after the body was kept at home.

Mangaluru, July 29: Justifying the transfer of Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, district in-charge minister Kota Shrinivas Poojari has accused Mangaluru MLA U T Khader of politicizing the issue. 

The IAS officer was transferred by the Karnataka government on July 28, a day after a saffron activist issued a death threat against her on social media after she warned of legal action against the miscreants who attack cattle traders.

Condemning the development, Mr Khader had tweeted that the state government has punished the deputy commissioner instead of punishing the culprit, who issued death threat.

Responding to Mr Khader’s tweet, Mr Poojari said that the transfer of the officer was on administrative ground. “It is unfortunate that Khader politicized a transfer carried out by the government on administrative ground. This is not Khader’s time to protect any accused,” tweeted Mr Poojari. 

It is worth mentioning here that Mr Khader was the district in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada before Mr Poojari taking over the position. 

Meanwhile, police has arrested a person in connection with the death threat against the IAS officer.
