Hira Media and Studio inaugurated

Mangalore, July 16: In present times, when media standards have stooped to great levels, there is a need for media centres which stand for truth and justice, said Ejaz Ahmed Aslam, National Secretary, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH).

He was speaking after inaugurating Hira Media and Studio at Hidayath Centre in Mangalore on Monday.

Mr. Aslam wished well to the centre and hoped that it becomes a voice for the marginalized.

Dr. C P Habib Rehman, Director, Unity Health Complex and B S Sharfuddin, Visiting Faculty, IGNOU Centre, Kuwait, also wished well for the studio.

The main objectives of setting up this studio include broadcast of programmes in local cable network and to initiate steps to expand the activities on state level and to prepare CDs and DVDs about the basic concepts of Islam and various social issues. The studio also has plans to prepare CDs and DVDs about the Qur'an, hadiths, public speeches, programmes about Islamic related topics. It will also digitize the Islamic books and publish e-books and to broadcast all the programmes conducted for Islamic movement. The Hira studio would produce documentaries and serials on Islamic movements to spread the message of Islam.

The objectives also included training Daaees to use digital media and designing Islamic websites and portals.

Muhammad Kunhi, State Joint Secretary, JIH, presided over the programme. Ishaq Puttur, Director of the studio, welcomed. Suhail Uppinangady rendered the qirath. Abdul Gafoor Kulai compered the programme.

Mangaluru, Jul 19: Five physicians of KVG Medical College in Sullia, Dakshina Kannada were booked for violating their home quarantine guidelines.

The district administration learnt about their quarantine violations after tracking their GPS locations through the app on Sunday.

The five medics were ordered 14 days home quarantine after the College staff tested positive for COVID-19. 

However, all the five physicians visited many places in the town violating quarantine norms, and hence the police booked cases against them.

Udupi, Jul 8: A 15-year-old boy belonging to Saligrama in Udupi district, who was under home quarantine with his mother, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself yesterday.

His throat swabs were sent for testing. The report received today and it showed that he did not have coronavirus.
 
The boy, a class ten student studying in Kota, was quarantined along with his mother at home after a person in a family, where she was working as a maid tested positive for Covid-19.

The boy is suspected to have taken the extreme step out of depression as he was not allowed to go out. The last rites were held today.

Bengaluru, May 29: A cost-effective state of the art glove box testing booth for swab collection was inaugurated by Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar at Victoria hospital.

Inaugurating the specially designed booth for safer, easier and quicker testing, Medical Education Minister Dr Sudhakar said that the portable booths can be used at border check posts and hot spots.

"The testing method involves the collection of samples from inside a box of aluminium and glass. The suspected corona virus-infected individual, whose samples are being taken, has to walk up to the booth and stand in front of the glass exterior. The healthcare worker inside the kiosk collects the sample and then, follows the sanitisation process before proceeding to take the next sample. The collection process, fully contactless, gets over in five minutes," the Minister said.

Dr Sudhakar also said: "This booth significantly reduces manpower requirement and the need for PPE kits. The main advantages of this procedure are that it needs fewer healthcare workers and strictly adheres to the norms of social distancing. 

The booth is low-cost. Each model costs about Rs 15,000-20,000."
It is also portable and can be mounted on a vehicle and transported to any location.

It can be particularly useful for collecting samples in hot spots and border checkpoints, he added.
