Decision on 'Made Snana' soon: Minister Srinivas Poojary

Mangalore, July 17: A decision with regard to abolishing the practice of 'Made Snana' ritual in temples would be taken soon by the government, Kota Srinivas Poojary, the newly appointed state minister for Muzrai and Ports and Inland Water Transport said.

Speaking to mediapersons after he was given a rousing welcome by BJP activists at the Dakshina Kannada district party office in Mangalore on Tuesday, Mr. Poojary said that 'Made Snana' is a serious issue with a group of devotees favouring it on one hand and progressive organisations on the other demanding its abolition. The government will try to take everyone in confidence and take an apt decision soon, he said.

The ministry was formerly held by the late Dr. V S Acharya. Mr. Poojary said that he will try to fulfill the incomplete projects and initiatives taken up by Dr. Acharya.

Mr. Poojary also said that in the days to come, his ministry will make cleanliness in and around temple premises mandatory.

The various problems that come under the purview of the Muzrai department are being studied by him, Mr. Poojary said and assured that he would chalk out plans to solve the same.

Kochi, May 8: Five people, who were among 181 individuals evacuated from Abu Dhabi, have been sent to the isolation ward of the district hospital after they displayed symptoms of coronavirus during thermal screening.

The first repatriation Air India Express flight with 181 individuals from Abu Dhabi landed at Cochin International Airport here on Thursday.

Among the returnees, 49 women were pregnant and four were children. They have been home-quarantine.

Meanwhile, the rest have been taken to quarantine centres in their respective districts.

The Air India Express flight IX452 to Kochi with 177 passengers and four infants took off from Abu Dhabi International Airport and touched down at Kochi post 10 pm.

The government has made it mandatory for foreign returnees to be quarantined for 14 days, either in a hospital or in an institutional quarantine on payment-basis, by the concerned state government.

A COVID-19 test would be done after 14 days and further action would be taken according to health protocols.

India on Monday began phased repatriation of its citizens stranded abroad due to coronavirus lockdown.

The government said that Air India will operate 64 flights from May 7 to May 13 to bring back around 15,000 Indian nationals stranded abroad amid the COVID-19-induced lockdown.

Starting from 7 May, 64 flights will take off for 12 countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Maldives, Singapore and the US.

Kasaragod, Feb 18: Police have seized counterfeit notes of Rs 45 lakh from a resident here on Tuesday.

The accused Muhammed, a native of Perla, has been taken into custody for carrying the prohibited currency and the police is investigating the crime.

Bengaluru, Apr 29: Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday clarified that Department of Telecommunications has extended the relaxed terms and conditions for VPN till July 31.

"Wish to clarify that it is not extension of WFH. In response to IT Industry's request to facilitate WFH for OSPs, Department of Telecommunications, India had relaxed terms and conditions for VPN till April 30 After discussions with IT Ministers this relaxation in terms and conditions is extended till July 31," Prasad Tweeted quoting Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka Dr Ashwath Narayan.

Earlier, the Karnataka government issued a press statement saying that the central government has given permission to IT professionals to work from home till July 31 in the view of COVID-19 pandemic.
