Residents appeal govt not to abolish Made Snana

Mangalore, July 19: The residents of Kukke Subrahmanya have demanded the government not to abolish Made Snana ritual practised by devotees of Subrahmanya temple during the annual 'Champa Shashti' festival.

The devotees have the freedom guaranteed by the Constitution to practice religious rituals of their choice which should be upheld by the government and their rights should be protected, the residents demanded.

Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, temple sculptor Krishnaprasad Muniyangala asserted that Made Snana will be performed this year too without any change in the procedure and the residents would not budge to any pressure from outside. “If a section of people stage stir in the temple premises opposing the ritual, then we too would fight against them. The practise has been followed for centuries and the politics should not interfere in religious matters. It is the responsibility of the government and the society to respect the sentiments of residents of Subrahmanya,” he said.

Citing two responses by the Karnataka Human Rights Commission and the Karnataka High Court on the issue, Krishnaprasad informed that KHRC has sent a letter to the civilians of Subrahmanya in the month of June, clarifying that the Commission cannot interfere in the religious matters and it is up to the devotees to decide over the issue.

Similarly, the High Court in its judgement to a Public Interest Litigation filed by one Chandrashekharaiah questioning the ritual has stated, “The Court cannot give any directions to the temple management as the issue pertains to religious freedom of the individual.” Meanwhile, the civilians have also demanded the section of the society who oppose the ritual to conduct a detailed study on the ritual and then come to the conclusion. “Those who question the Made Snana ritual, why not question the 'Urulu Seve' ritual that the devotees perform on the road from Kumaradhara to Subrahmanya,” he asked.

Religious leader Lakshmish Kabaladka, representatives from the village Rajesh N S and Monta were present.

New Delhi, Jul 28: Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Sadananda Gowda on Monday said that India has proved that it is the "pharmacy of the world" in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at a press conference here, Gowda said, "India is often referred to as 'the pharmacy of the world' and this has been proved true especially in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic when India continued to export critical life-saving medicines to the countries."

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandviya said that three bulk drug parks will be developed in the country in partnership with the states at Rs 3,000 crores.

"Three bulk drug parks will be developed in the country in partnership with the states at Rs 3,000 crores. Four medical device parks will also be developed with a government grant of Rs 100 crores for one park," Mandaviya said.

Bengaluru, Jan 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday slammed states, which have not enrolled with the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana (PMKSY), saying that such petty politics has done great damage to the farming community.

"I expect that in the new year, those states which are not associated with the Kisan Samman Yojana will at least become a part of it this year," the Prime Minister said at a function in Tumakuru where he disbursed Rs 12,000 crore to six crore beneficiaries under the government scheme in one-go.

Also, he gave away the Krishi Karman Award to the selected farmers and distributed fishing equipment to the chosen ones on the occasion. Modi said political considerations by the state governments in implementing the PMKSY has caused severe loss to the poor farmers.

"Such politics has never strengthened the farmers. Our government understood your (farmers') needs, requirements and your aspirations and accordingly tried to implement the schemes," said Modi.

He further said his government never saw agriculture in fragments but in its totality. Claiming his government has ensured that the entire money reached the poor beneficiaries, Prime Minister hit out at the previous governments, when middlemen ruled the roost.

"There was a time when a rupee was rolled out (by the government) for the poor person, only 15 paise would reach him. The middlemen would pocket the remaining 85 paise. "Today, whatever money is dispatched from Delhi, the entire amount directly reaches the bank account of the beneficiary," he said.

He told the gathering about the various initiatives taken by his government to improve the agriculture sector such as completing the pending irrigation schemes, soil health card and 100 per cent neem-coating in urea.

Due to the initiatives of the government, agriculture production has gone up, he said. Speaking about measures in the fisheries sector, the Prime Minister said the sector has been promoted in the villages, financial help given to fishermen, modernisation of boats and building fisheries-related infrastructure have been done.

Bengaluru, Jun 5: An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter Scale jolted Karnataka on Friday morning while another with a magnitude of 4.7 was felt in Jharkhand.

The tremors were felt in Hampi (Karnataka) and Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

According to NCS, the aftershocks were felt at 6:55 am in both the places today.
