North Malabar Chamber of Commerce delegation visits NMPT

Mangalore, July 19: A high level delegation from the North Malabar Chamber of Commerce (NMCC), Kannur, visited the New Mangalore Port Trust on Thursday.

The delegation headed by was headed by NMCC President Vinod Narayan, and comprised of Secretary C.V. Deepak, Treasurer P.P. Shamim, International Director Maheshchandra Baliga and committee members

A meeting was arranged with the Port Management, wherein representatives from the Kanara Chamber, Shipping Agents, Main Line/Feeder Line Operators, Customs, etc participated and had a fruitful discussion on the possibility of moving import/export cargo through New Mangalore Port. T.S.N. Murthy, IRS , Dy.Chairman, welcomed the gathering and explained the purpose of the meeting .

Dr. P. Tamilvanan, Chairman, NMPT while presenting the facilities available at the Port has appealed the delegation to make use of the excellent facilities available at NMP for handling any type of cargo at economical rates. He has recalled the Trade Meet conducted at Kannur during February 2012 and the follow up action taken so far

Vinod Narayan assured to prevail upon the exporters and importers from the Kannur region to mobilize the cargo through NMP which is very near to them. He added that cargoes worth Rs.500 crores like timber, edible oil , scrap, plywood, coir, textiles etc. which are imported/exported in the north Malabar region could be routed through New Mangalore Port after detailed discussion with the agents of Mangalore.

After the meeting the members were taken around the Port area to appraise themselves on the cargo handling operations and infrastructure availability.

D. Mahadeviah, Traffic Manager i/c has thanked all the port users, main line operations, feeder line operators, customs and the delegates from the Kannur Chamber for attending the meet. Shri Nownith Kumar, Dy.Traffic Manager, NMPT has co-ordinated the programme

Bengaluru, Apr 29: The Karnataka police department has decided not to deploy its personnel aged above 55 as frontliners in Covid-19 related duty.

According to order issued here on Wednesday by Director General of Police Praveen Sood, it was a precautionary measure as the elderly was more susceptible to the risk of infection.

Apart from this, the order also states that any police personnel suffering from diabetes, hypertension, asthma, kidney, liver-related problems and cardiovascular disease must also be kept away from Coronavirus duty. The policemen can be deployed for station duty.

Mangaluru, May 12: Air India will operate two flights - one each from Doha and Muscat - to bring back stranded Kannadigas from Qatar and Oman to Mangaluru next week. 

The flight from Muscat to Mangaluru will be operated on May 20 via Bengaluru. It will depart from Muscat International Airport at 1.15 pm local time and reach Bengaluru at 6.15 pm. After the layover at Bengaluru airport, the flight will take off at 7.15 pm and land at Mangaluru International Airport at around 8.10 pm.

Doha – Bengaluru – Mangaluru flight is will be operated May 22. The flight will take off from Doha at 1.30 pm local time and will land at Bengaluru at 8 pm. It will take off from Bengaluru at 9 pm and land at Mangaluru airport around 9.35 pm.

Mangaluru, Apr 27: Two more people including an elderly woman have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Dakshina Kannada. 

With this the total number of covid-19 cases in the district reached 21, though most of them have recovered and returned home. 

In its today's bulletin, the health and family welfare department confirmed that a 45-year-old man and his 80-year-old mother tested positive for the deadly disease. 

It is learnt that one of them had undergone treatment at a private hospital where a woman from Bantwal, who died of covid-19, was being treated for breathing difficulties, before she was shifted to Wenlock Hospital which is now converted into covid-19 hospital.
