Mangalore, July 20: At least five school children had a miraculous escape when the auto-rickshaw in which they were returning home from the school was hit by a speeding car in the city on Friday evening.
Source said that the driver of the Hyundai i20 car bearing registration KL 14 J 3055 rammed into a Maruti Omni and then hit the auto-rickshaw at around 4:30 pm near St Mary's School on S L Mathias Road at Falnir.
Worried after hitting two vehicles, the young driver sped away and while negotiating a curve completely lost control over his car which ultimately turned turtle.
The car driver and his co-passenger were sustained injuries in the incident. Both were taken to custody by the jurisdictional police for reckless driving.
The accident led to traffic jam at least for half an hour. A case has been registered.
