Installation ceremony of Rotaract Club of Mangalore City held

Mangalore, July 25: Rotaract Club provides an opportunity for the youth to enhance the knowledge and skill and that will guide them in personal development, opined Rotary Dist Governor Rtn. Dr. B. Devdas Rai.

Speaking as a chief guest on the installation Ceremony of office bearers of Rotaract Club of Mangalore City at St. Sebastian Hall, Mangalore on Tuesday, he said that the Club also provides an opportunity to develop good relationship with all people through a framework of friendship and service.

Team work will make dream work, he added.

President of Rotary Club of Mangalore Central Rtn. Dr. Sureshchandra Shetty administered the oath taking ceremony of the office bearers and conveyed his best wishes.

Dist Rotaract Representative Rtr. Shailendra Rao released the club bulletin “Nenapu”.

President Rtr. Vikram Cutinha in his acceptance speech presented a brief report on his annual projects and sought the members support and co-operation.

Outgoing President Rtr. Dinesh Salian welcomed the gathering. Outgoing Secretary Rtr. Keshav presented a brief report on the community development activities successfully implemented by the club and thanked the members for its success. Zonal Rotaract Representative Rtr. Razak was present on this occasion. Secretary Rtr. Prasad Rao proposed the vote of thanks.

Koppal, Aug 3: The activists of Popular Front of India (PFI) have won the heart of the people by performing the last rites of a local leader of Bharatiya Janata Party in Koppla district of Karnataka. 

Somashekhara Gowda, a senior BJP leader in Koppal’s Gangavathi died of covid-19. His family members were reportedly quarantined. His own party activists also were not ready to participate in the last rite due to the fear of coronavirus infection.

Following requests, a team of PFI comprised of district secretary Fayaz, and members Yaseen, Abdul Aalam, Shamid Razi and Husain Azarauddin performed the last rites as per Veerashaiva Lingayat traditions. 

Speaking to media persons PFI district president Zaheer Abbas lamented that people still have plenty of misconceptions about covid-19. “Due to the misconceptions, performing the last rites of those who die of covid-19 has become a challenge,” he said.

He said that PFI activists followed all the health guidelines and took necessary precautions while performing the last rites. “Under the guidance of district health officials and with the consent of the family members of the deceased, the last rites were performed as per Veerashaiva Lingayat traditions,” he said.

Mangaluru, Apr 4: No positive case of coronavirus has been detected in Dakshina Kannada district as per the latest update released by the district administration on Friday.

Test results of throat swab samples of 16 people with suspected symptoms were received today and all of them were negative.

A total of 38,518 people have been screened for coronavirus in Dakshina Kannada district till date with 72 people being screened today.

Udupi, Jul 16: With two deaths in a single day, and receiving coronavirus positive report of a person who died two days ago, Udupi district’s covid-19 death toll today mounted to eight. 

A-49-year-old resident of Udupi, was admitted to Ajjarkad government hospital for other ailments. He was suffering from multiple health issues like diabetes and respiratory problems.

Last night he was tested positive for coronavirus and hence he was shifted to Dr TMA Pai COVID hospital in Udupi where he breathed his last today. 

A 54-year-old man from Maravanthe in Byndoor taluk, who was suffering from asthma, today died while being taken from one hospital to the other.

He was admitted to a private hospital in Kundapur on the evening of Wednesday. Today he was being shifted to Manipal hospital. However he breathed his last half way through.  

His body was taken back to Kundapur and throat swab of the deceased was sent for testing. As the sample of the deceased person was taken using rapid test kit, his report was available within half an hour and it showed positive for covid-19. 

Meanwhile, throat swabs of a man from Ankola in Uttar Kannada district, who passed away in Manipal Hospital on July 14, were tested positive today. His funeral was held at the Beedinagudde crematorium as per the COVID norms.
