Jamiyyatul Falah distributes provisions worth Rs. 25 lakh among the needy

Mangalore, July 26: The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district units of Jamiyyatul Falah, in coordination with the organisation's NRCC units, have distributed provisions to nearly 2,500 deserving Muslim families across the two districts on the occasion of Ramzan.

The groceries included 25 kg rice, besides sugar, tea powder, pulses, edible oil, sevige etc – all weighing 10 kg. The value of the each unit is estimated to be Rs. 1,000 and the total worth of the distributed provisions amounts to Rs. 25 lakh, according to an office-bearer of the organization.

He said the provisions were delivered direct to the homes of the beneficiaries, spread from Kundapur to Sullia, by the volunteers of the organization. The beneficiaries were identified through a survey, he added.

While 2,200 units of provision kit were sponsored by the NRCC units, the remaining 300 were sponsored by a group of charity-minded people heded by Althaf Khateeb.

The distribution was symbolically inaugurated at the organisation's office in Kankanady on Wednesday. Basheer Haji, president of the Corporation unit, secretary Azeem, treasurer Nazeer Ahmed, joint secretary Imthiyaz Khateeb, District unit treasurer Zameer Ambar, P.B.A. Razak, Faizan, among others, were present.

Tumakuru, Jul 12: A four-year-old boy was killed by a leopard at Rajendrapur hamlet at Hasige Hobli village near Huliyurdurga in Kunigal taluk.

Police said on Sunday that this was the third such attack by big cats in the district in a span of six months.

Forest officials said that the boy had gone with his mother to wash clothes at a tank and the animal attacked him while playing there on Saturday late evening. 

A passerby who witnessed the incident scared the animal, it escaped leaving the boy’s body behind.

Mangaluru Mar 30: The Mangaluru South Police has registered a criminal case against a man over a 'derogatory post' against the district administration. According to DC Sindhu B Rupesh, the man identified as Melwyn Pinto had sent a derogatory message on WhatsApp.

She warned on taking stringent action against miscreants who are spreading false information and rumours about district administration under DM Act provisions.

Meanwhile, City Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha said, "We have noticed people going around on merry rides without purpose either on two-wheelers or in cars during the lockdown period."

Mangaluru/Mysuru, Mar 2:Unseasonal rain that lashed several parts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Mysuru districts on Monday brought big relief from scorching heat experienced since last one week.

According to official sources here, the Port city received rain for more than two hours since 0500 hrs. Mangaluru, Thokkottu, Ullal, Kavoor, Bondel, Bejai and other areas surrounding Mangaluru experienced rainfall.

Power supply was disrupted following rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted 'generally cloudy sky' for Mangaluru on Monday.
