Mangalore, July 30: Condemning the Mangalore homestay attack, Dakshina Kannada District-in-Charge Minister C T Ravi has said that district administration and the police have been directed to initiate stringent action against the culprits without favouring anyone.

Speaking to media persons after holding meeting with the senior officials on Sunday evening, he said: “I have been in touch with the Home Minister and Chief Minister. As many as eight individuals who were part of the attack have been arrested. The remaining three persons who were part of the team will be nabbed soon.

The government will not allow anyone to take law into their hand. Whatever may be the situation, one should have belief in the system. “All of us have a responsibility to adhere to the rules and regulations. One should not go beyond a limit. We will oppose any act of Talibans in the State. The police department has been directed to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the State,” he told mediapersons.

“We have a responsibility to ensure that peace is not marred in the district,” he said and added that the district administration has been directed to take all precautionary measures.

Home Minister has promised to provide helping hand in case of necessity, he added. Ravi said that he has directed the authorities concerned to collect information on homestays, permission for running the homestay and the persons who maintain it.

“We will probe into the incident. There is no question of defending the accused. However, no innocent will be harmed. No accused will be allowed to go scotfree from the clutches of law. After a thorough investigation, we will come to know the failure. We cannot tell now itself. As per the available information, it was a spontaneous incident,” he said.

Udupi, May 2: All the 18 people who were advised self-quarantine in connection with the Thekkatte petrol bunk incident have been tested negative, however, they were asked to continue the 14-day quarantine, said DHO Sudhirchandra Suda on Saturday.

the petrol bunk at Thekkatte was sealed after a Covid infected person had food and took bath at the petrol bunk, while he was travelling from Mumbai to Mandya.

The employees and the owner of the petrol bunk along with the six employees at Sasthana toll gate were asked to quarantine themselves for 14 days.

Mangaluru, Apr 22: Iftar parties, Taraweeh and weekly Friday prayers in mosques have been banned in the district during Ramadan amid Coronavirus theat, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh said here on Wednesday.

In a release issued here, she said, “As per the guidelines issued by the State government and Wakf Board, arranging Iftar gathering, and offering Taraveeh Namaz and Friday Namaz at mosques or dargas during the month of Ramadan has been prohibited as a precaution measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Therefore, offer prayers at homes instead of going to mosques," the DC said.

“No one can perform Namaz in the mosques except the muezzin and the Pesh imam and the staff of the mosque. Also, gathering neighbors and offering collective prayers at anybody's home is also not allowed. Masjid administration committees must follow the directives of the government, Wakf Board and the District Administration”, the DC urged.

Mangaluru, Feb 7: In an attempt to promote menstrual hygiene among women, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has installed vending machines and incinerators to dispense and dispose off sanitary napkins at 10 bus stands of the state including Mangaluru.

The machines have been installed inside the women's washroom and women can purchase sanitary napkins from the vending machines by inserting five rupee coins.

Nearly 100 napkins can be stored in the vending machines at a time and housekeeping personnel have been instructed to replenish the stock, as and when required.

While directions on how to use the machine have been displayed near the machines, people can get seek assistance from housekeeping staff if needed.

Initially, the machines were installed at two depots in Bengaluru on a pilot basis and in the second phase it has been extended to 10 KSRTC bus depots.
