Mangalore, August 1: C Manjula, Chief of the Karnataka State Women's Commission on Wednesday inspected the site of the homestay in Mangalore where the assault on young girls and boys was carried out by Hindutva activists.

Speaking to media persons later, she said that the Commission has already condemned the attack. “I have come here to hold and inspection and to seek answers as to why such incidents are repeatedly taking place in Mangalore. I am also interested to find out if there are forces working towards misguiding the youth of the region”, she said.

Some arrests have already been made but the rest of the culprits also need to be brought to book, she said.

Ms. Manjula said that one of the Commission's objectives is the protection of women. “Young girls need not worry. Our Commission is meant to protect you”, she said.

Prevention is better

The State Women's Commission Chief said that preventing such incidents from taking place is more important than taking action in the aftermath.

“After an attack takes place, but naturally law will have to take its own course. But prevention is more important as it is an important aspect of maintaining law and order”, she said.

Ms. Manjula also informed that she will be holding a meeting with the Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University and other representatives of different colleges in the city to discuss the issue of protection of young female students.
