Inter-State smuggling racket busted: 415 litres of of Indian-made foreign liquor seized

imflKasaragod, August 1: In a major crackdown on Inter-State smuggling of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor ahead of the Onam season, the Excise team on Tuesday seized 414.720 litres of the brew from a car at Manya, near here.

On a tip-off, a team of sleuths from the Excise Department, led by Inspector K. B. Binu, seized 2,304 bottles of 180 ML capacity each, kept in 48 boxes from the car.

The car sped away even after being signalled to stop, an official said . A hot chase of the car followed, after which the vehicle bearing registration number KL 54 A 7551, was seized.

However, the driver of the car managed to flee. On enquiry, the police came to know that the brew was being transported from Karnataka.

The seizure is the first of its kind after the Excise Department beefed up vigil on the smuggling of illicit brew from neighboring Karnataka ahead of the Onam season.

Mysuru, Feb 7: Former chief minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday said that Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa-led government is not stable and it can fall at any moment.

"Karnataka Government is not a stable one. With the developments taking place, it can fall at any moment," Kumaraswamy told reporters when asked to comment on the Karnataka Cabinet expansion.

Earlier in the day, 10 MLAs including Ramesh Jarkiholi, Anand Singh, K Sudhakar and BA Basavaraja took oath as Cabinet Ministers at Raj Bhawan in Bengaluru.

Mangaluru, Jul 3: A middle aged man killed his wife by pushing her down a stone quarry at Karambaru near Kavoor on the outskirts of the city today.

The victim has been identified as Shanta, aged around 35 years. The accused is her husband Ganesh, aged round 45 years.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The exact reason for the crime is yet to be known. It is learnt that the husband and wife had quarreled before the murder.

A native of Hassan, Ganesh was working as a tipper driver. Shanta hailed from Salethadka in Kasargod. They couple have a son and a daughter. The family stays in a rented house at Kavoor.

Bengaluru, Apr 4: Sixteen coronavirus cases have

been confirmed in Karnataka, taking the total number of the affected in the state to 144, the Health department said here on Saturday.

A 75-year old man, who is a resident of Bagalkote, who was confirmed positive on Friday and was being treated at a designated hospital in the district, expired last night.

"Till this evening, 144 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes four deaths and 11 discharges," the health department said in a bulletin.

Out of the 129 active cases, 126 patients (including 1 pregnant woman) are in isolation at designated hospitals and are stable and three in Intensive Care Units (one on oxygen and two on Ventilators), it said.

Among the total of 144 cases detected and confirmed so far, eight are transit passengers of Kerala who landed in airports in Karnataka and are being treated in the state, it said.
