Mangalore, August 2: A team led by Tahshildar Ravichandra Naik conducted a raid on an indoor sports club below Hotel Nisarga in Mangalore on Thursday and suspect of betting activity being carried out at the place.

Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, Mr. Naik said that about 30-50 people were present in the club when he entered but no gaming activity was going on. “The carom board was without pawns. The place did not look as though indoor games were being played here. We found a book with people's names and money amounts written against them at the spot. The TV was switched on and England Vs South Africa cricket match was running live. We have therefore come to a conclusion that betting activity was taking place here”, Mr. Naik said.

The ones present in the club however, managed to escape through a door at the corner of the room.

The Tahshildar said that the monitoring source of the CCTV cameras installed at the spot would also be looked into to dig deep into the activities that were being carried out at the place.

The action was taken after a complaint was filed by a citizen with the Deputy Commissioner regarding the activities of the club.

In his message to the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa released to the media, DSouza said, "Christians in Karnataka welcome with gratitude the announcement of Rs 200-crore allocation for the community in the budget for fiscal 2020-21."

In 2011-12 fiscal also, Yediyurappa as Chief Minister had allocated a grant of Rs 50 crore for the community for the first time in the history of the state, he said.
