M.Sc in Physics inaugurated at St. Philomena College

Puttur, August 4: The inaugural programme of MSc course in Physics was held on recently at SJM Hall of St. Philomena College Puttur.

The programme began with the prayer. Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Chairperson, PG Studies in Physics, Professor Leo Noronha, Principal of St. Philomena college and Dr AP Radhakrishna, Head of the Department, Physics escorted the dignitaries on to the dais.

The Correspondent of the College, Very Rev. Fr Gerald Dsouza, welcomed the guest which was followed by the preliminary note from Rev. Fr. Dr Antony Prakash in which he expressed that his heart was overwhelming with emotions to start PG Physics course, over the presence of his own teachers who taught him. Moreover, he mentioned that the Department of Physics has spacious class rooms, well equipped laboratories and qualified teachers. Time to time guest lecturing, seminars will be arranged in the department to focus the attention of the students to acquire knowledge in recent scientific developments and challenges in scientific world, so that they can pave their future path in the right direction.

The MSc Physics course was symbolically inaugurated by lightening the lamp. Dr J S Bhat, Professor, PG Studies in Physics, Karnataka University, the chief guest and inaugurator of the function in his message remarked that, it is indeed a happiest moment for him to inaugurate MSc Physics course in his home town. He highly appreciated the Catholic Board of Education for commencing this course to save those rural students who availed degree education and who could probably be denied of post graduate education because of their varied reasons.

The guest of honour Dr KM Balakrishna, Professor and Chairman of PG Studies in Physics, Mangalore University suggested the management committee to provide every required facility to run the course smoothly especially a well-equipped lab and internet facility. Dr K B Vijayakumar, Associate Professor, PG Studies in Physics; Mangalore University congratulated the managing committee, who is responsible to start the course. Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, the Bishop of Managalore in his presidential address shed light on the importance of PG study in the present scenario. He told nowadays higher education is very essential to earn bread and butter. He also added saying that long ago, to get a job it was enough to have a minimum qualification of matriculation but at present there is an urgent need for every individual to get higher education in the present social setup. Furthermore through self-interest, sacrifice and discipline knowledge should be gained, improved and character be nourished, so that a person can be successful in the society.

Professor Leo Noronha, Principal of the college proposed the vote of thanks and also gave information regarding commencing of MSc Mathematics in St. Philomena in the next academic year. P G student Ms Rachana and team rendered prayer. Ms Bharathi.S.Rai HOD of English introduced the guests and compeered the formal programme. Mr Prakash D'Souza , Physical Director of the College organized the guard of honour to the President and the guests. Retired Professors, PTA, Alumni Association office bearers, Members of Management committee, Heads of neighbouring institutions and well -wishers participated in the programme and enhanced the joy of Philo family.

PG and UG students, teaching and non- teaching staff and also the parents took active part in the programme. At 12pm the curtains for the programme were drawn.

As part of the Indian Overseas Congress Mera Bharat Mahaan NRI Series, a Facebook live Global Conference was facilitated by Dr Arathi Krishna, Dy. KPCC NRI Chairman and Mr. Mohammad Mansoor President IOC Bahrain on 30th May, 2020.

In the one and half hour live interaction, questions and answers were addressed by DK Shivakumar, President of PCC Karnataka and attended by hundreds of participants, accumulating an impressive 300K people viewing the live broadcast across the globe.

The event was inaugurated with a welcome address by the inspiring and innovative IOC chairman Sam Pitroda followed by the motivational speech of AICC Secretary Shri Himanshu Vyas, IOC US President Mr. Mohinder Singh Gilzian and former KPCC NRI Dy Chairman Dr. Arathi Krishna by whom Shivakumar was introduced.

The event was remarkably successful with maximum interaction of global congress family members and straight forward answers by Shivakumar. 

He emphasized on the present political issues in India and the Indian government's negligence in handling the crisis related to Covid-19 and the indefinite lockdown. He added at present, that the Congress is playing a frontline, constructive role by addressing and articulating the Covid-19 issues and offering critique-based solutions to the government as a responsible opposition party.

The insightful meeting covered the congress strategy and the rebuilding of the KPCC, as well as discussed counter corrupt and hatred politics of current regime along with the role of constructive opposition, etc.

IOC Bahrain President Mr. Mohammad Mansoor thanked IOC Chairman Sam Pitroda, AICC Secretary  Himanshu Vyas for their role in strengthening the party and motivating the team; former KPCC NRI Dy Chairman Dr. Arathi Krishna for introducing the guest; IOC global IT Cell Chairman Manoj Shinde, along with Dananjay and Vinay for professionally managing the event;  IOC US President Mohinder and  Karnataka Chapter President Gauri Shankar for emphasizing the guest of honour; Ms Sofiya Sharma and Ms Vijya Nadela for beautifully moderating the event and all the distinguished guests and Presidents of IOC and KPCC wing Leaders from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Germany and other countries who were present on the online meeting and especially  Mr. Althaf,  PA to DKS and Mr. A.N.Nataraj Gowda in charge of KPCC IT Cell for helping facilitatethe online meeting.

Mangaluru, Jan 23: The Muslim Central Committee of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and Humanity Forum of Mangaluru today handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to the aggrieved family of Naushin, who was killed in arbitrary police firing on December 19 in the city.

A team of philanthropists led by Muslim Central Committee chairman K S Mohammad Masood visited Shaheed Nausheen’s house at Kudroli and handed over the cheque. Several philanthropists have contributed to this humanitarian aid.

Corporator Shamsuddin Kudroli, S M Rasheed Haji, Mansoor Ahmed Azad, Ibrahim Kodichal, Haneef Haji, Asif Deals and Ashraf Kinara were present among others.

Mangaluru, May 5: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has denotified two containment zones, Sampya in Puttur and Thumbe in Bantwal. They were declared containment zones after one coronavirus positive case was reported from each area.

All the primary and secondary contacts of the patients have completed home quarantine period, said DC Sindhu B Rupesh.

The district administration hitherto had already denotified three other such containment zones based on a report of DHO,  after no new case was reported in the area in the last 28 days.

At present, the district has six containment zones-- Shakthinagara, Boloor, First Neuro Hospital in Mangaluru city, Uppinangady in Puttur, Kasaba and Narikombu in Bantwal taluk.
