Mangalore, August 6: The city unit of the Hindu Yuva Sene and Nagarika Seva Horata Samithi, Alape, have jointly condemned the 'manhandling' and arrest of Corporator Mohan Padil by the police.

Addressing media persons at Press Club in Mangalore on Monday, Vasudev Bhat, Spokesperson, Hindu Yuva Sene, said that Mr. Padil is a respected social worker and has been serving the society by taking initiatives in religious services for over 23 years, besides being an Ayyappa Swami devotee.

The police wrongly took him into custody on the day of the assault on young boys and girls at Morning Mist homestay, he said.

Mr. Padil being the Corporator of the area had been to the site of the attack to take stock of the situation when the attacks took place. Upon his arrival he saw people in an agitated mood. When he tried to pacify them, the police resorted to lathi charge on the people gathered. When Mr. Padil protested the police action, he was dragged by his collar by the police officers at the spot and taken into custody in spite of him telling them that he was the local Corporator. This action of the police is condemnable, Mr. Bhat said.

He also demanded that apt action be taken against reporter of a Kannada TV news channel for allegedly disseminating false news about Mr. Padil that he was drunk on the occasion.
