Puttur: Congress leader Muhammad Hatta dies at 67

Puttur, August 12: Senior congress leader of Puttur Muhammed Hatta on Saturday died of cardiac arrest at his residence at Puttur-Darbe.

Though he was rushed to the nearby hospital immediately he did not respond to the treatment and breathed his last.

67 year old Muhammad Hatta had served as member of Zilla Parishat from Nettanige Mudnoor. He was also President of Zilla Parishat Industrial Standing committee, President of Puttur Urban Development Authority, member of District Land Tribunal, General Secretary of Puttur Block Congress and member of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee.

Presently, he was serving as Vice President of Muslim Samyuktha Jama'ath. Earlied he had also rendered his services for 10 years as Secretary of Jama'ath. He was also Secretary of Puttur Seerath Committee, office-bearer of Jam'iyyathul Falah as well as Crescent Youngmens' Association.

Mangaluru, Jul 15: A septuagenarian from Bantwal taluk died due to coronavirus infection at a hospital in the city taking the covid-19 death toll in Dakshina Kannada to 54.

The deceased was a 73-years-old and a resident of Kasaba village in Vittal, Bantwal. Recently eight members of his family were tested positive for covid-19 including his son.

He was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru where he was tested positive for the virus. He did not respond to the treatment and breathed his last, sources said.

The final rites were carried out by a team of trained activists of Popular Front of India (PFI) at a designated graveyard. All necessary precautions were taken by the authorities concerned and police during the funeral.

Mangaluru, Apr 22: A team of officials raided the Big Bags International Pvt Ltd premises here on Tuesday following the apprehensions expressed by locals that the company has violated lockdown rules by resuming operations on April 20.

On Monday several workers of the firm from Kerala, Tumakuru and Bengaluru were reported to be at the premises to resume operations.

The raiding team asked the management to temporarily shut down operations and asked the workers to leave the place.

Mangaluru, Jan 10: A person has been booked for forwarding provocative message on WhatsApp against the Dakshina Kannada Khazi Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar.

According to police, the accused Hassan forwarded provocative messages against the Khazi in a WhatsApp group on December 31, following which he was booked under several sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Mangalore North Police are looking into the matter.
