Udupi, August 13: Ravivarma Kumar, senior advocate and former president of Karnataka Backward Classes Commission, said on Sunday that it was incumbent upon the people with progressive bent of mind to protest against reactionary thoughts and acts in the coastal region.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the Forum for Inter-Faith Relationship (Jati Mukta Sambandha Vedike) here. A State-level convention was also held by the forum on the occasion.
Mr. Kumar said the silence of progressive people was responsible for the erratic behaviour of the maths and the reactionary groups.
If people protested or objected, these groups would stop their wayward behaviour. It was essential for the people to stand up and say “no” to such reactionary thoughts and acts. If people remained silent, it would only help the reactionary and communal forces to grow. The forum was set up to promote inter-caste and inter-religion marriages and cordial relations among communities.
