CPI(M) demands basic facilities for Bangra Kulur residents

Mangalore, August 13: Members of CPI(M) held a protest in front of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on Monday demanding basic facilities for the people of Bangra Kulur.

Speaking on the occasion Sunil Kumar Bajal, CPI(M) leader, said that people of Bangra Kulur have for long been neglected by the authorities as their area continues to lack adequate roads and basic facilities.

Improper drainage system has resulted in not just caused inconvenience to the people using roads but also has had an impact on the agricultural lands of the area. The unclean state of the place is placing an open invitation to diseases like malaria, dengue and chikungunya, he said, adding that roads of the region too need urgent attention and tarring.

Stating that the condition of the bridge connecting Bangra Kulur residents to the city through Dambel is in a dangerous state, Mr. Bajal said that the 1979 bridge only facilitates two wheeler movement. There have been instances of two wheelers falling off the narrow bridge into the waters in the past, he said.

The area also needs urgent attention in terms of rectification of electric poles which are posing threats of electric shocks, lack of lamp posts and pathetic condition of roads during rainy season, he said.

New Delhi, Feb 4: "I own my statement," said BJP lawmaker Anant kumar Hedge on Tuesday amid the raging controversy over his remark on Mahatma Gandhi while adding that he has never said anything against the Father of the Nation.

"All related media reports are false. I never said what is being debated over. It is an unnecessary controversy. I own my statement made on February 1, 2020, in Bengaluru. I never made any reference to any political party or Mahatma Gandhi or anybody else, I was just trying to categorise freedom struggle. That's all," Hedge told news agency.

"I am surprised by the discussion around it. What can I say about something that is not there? There is hullabaloo going on without anything. My statement is available in public forum. If anyone wants to see, it is available online and on my website. Show me if I have said anything against Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru and any other freedom fighters," he added.

The BJP leader continued: "That programme was about Savarkar. With due respect of all our freedom fighters, I was just discussing our freedom struggle, there is no confusion or any derogatory comment on freedom struggle or fighters. Unnecessary nuisance has been created."

Hedge stoked a controversy after he had attacked Mahatma Gandhi by calling the freedom struggle led by him a "drama" and also questioned as to how "such people" come to be called 'Mahatma' in India.

"None of these so-called leaders was beaten up by the cops even once. Their independence movement was a big drama. It was staged by these leaders with the approval of the British. It was not a genuine fight. It was an adjustment freedom struggle," he had said.

While several Congress leaders have condemned his remark on the father of the nation, BJP leaders too has distanced themselves from it.

Top leadership in BJP is unhappy with Anantkumar Hegde over his controversial remark on Mahatma Gandhi, party sources had said on Monday, adding that he has been asked to issue an unconditional apology.

Mangaluru, May 10: A young photographer has drowned in River Phalguni near Maravoor on the outskirts of the city.

The victim has been identified as Kaushik, 22, who was working for Diya Studio in Kavoor. A resident of Kavoor, he was the only son of his mother.

The tragedy occurred when he had been to the river along with four friends to collect freshwater snails.

It is learnt that local residents rushed to the spot when Kaushik’s friends raised alarm. However, they could not rescue him.

Kaushik’s body was retrieved from the water after sometime. A case has been registered at Kavoor police station.

Bengaluru, Apr 2: A health worker, who was part of a team fighting against the Coronavirus disease in the city, was allegedly attacked by a mob and duped of her belongings at the Sadiq Layout in the Shivajinagar area on Thursday.

According to police sources, the health worker came under attack by a mob of youths when she was collecting data from those who were sick in the locality.
