Mangalore, August 14: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy organized 'Konkani samvedana' programme at the Academy Office, Lalbagh here on Monday.

Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Kasargod Chinna presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chinna said that the Academy has been providing platform for the budding talents by conducting varieties of programmes.

He also said, the academy would be celebrating Konkani 'Teachers' Day' on September 5.

Claud D'Souza, Konkani musician, inaugurated Konkani samvedana programme.

Visually-impaired musician Vijaya Kumar Bhat was felicitated on the occasion.

DK ZP standing committee President Janardana Gowda, Kodiala Khabar Editor Venkatesh Baliga were the chief guests.

Academy Member Roy Castalino welcomed the gathering while Registrar B Devdas Pai proposed vote of thanks. Mahesh R Nayak compered the programme.

Cong never took firm stand over Ram Mandir fearing loss of Muslim or Hindu votes: BJP

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Congress is confused on the Ram Mandir issue and in dilemma to take a firm stand fearing loss of Muslim or Hindu votes, according to BJP leader and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi.

"Congress opposed BJP's stand on constructing Ram Mandir in Ayodya, it called Lord Ram fictional and even decided to break the Ramsetu. Now, Congressmen are speaking the other way. Congress cannot think beyond vote bank politics which is in its DNA itself. Congressmen think that they are born to be in power," he said while speaking to media persons.

He said that BJP is all for constructing a grand Ram Mandir peacefully and legally, due to its conviction and not for politics. Same was the case with the revocation of Article 370 for Jammu & Kashmir. Anti-national activities have comparatively come down now.

Some people do not want everything going smoothly in the country, and Congress and Asaduddin Owaisi are among them, Joshi opined, adding that the Congress is merely frustrated.

‘If Mangaluru police didn’t commit mistake, why govt worked about HDK videos?’

Mangaluru, Jan 13: Supporting former state chief minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy who released a "CD on the December 19 Mangaluru violence", Dakshina Kannada party unit president Mohammed Kunhi on Monday demanded a probe into the violence.

Mr Kumaraswamy, who released 35 video clips related to the violence, had demanded the suspension of the Police Commissioner and also sought a house committee to probe the incident.

Addressing media personnel here, Kunhi questioned, "If the police department did not commit any mistake why is the state government looking worried about the CDs released by Kumaraswamy?"

Women’s satyagrah, human chain mark Martyrs’ Day in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jan 30: A day-long ‘satyagrah’ by women followed by formation of human chain marked the Martyrs’ Day, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, in Mangaluru.

The organisers were ‘We, the People of India’, whose sole intention was to safeguard constitution of India and raise voice against those to attack the constitution.

Amidst nationwide agitation by ‘We, the People of India’ against contentious CAA, NRC, the women of Manglauru have decided to hold satyagrah and form a human chain in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner in the heart of the city on January 30.

The Satyagrah commenced at 10 a.m. At 4:30 p.m. a human chain will be formed. At 5.17p.m. when the father of the nation was gunned down 72 years ago during his evening prayer at Birla House by Godse, the demonstrators raised the slogan of unity to defeat the ideology of Godse.
